Bestbuy.com best sellers: September 24-30
Madden continues to tackle the console charts as NBA Live 07, NBA 2K7 double-team a pair of DS newcomers.
Madden mania continued to sweep the nation during the week of September 24 to 30, according to the latest sales rankings from Best Buy's Web site. The PlayStation 2 edition of the game was once again the top dog, with the Xbox 360 version tackling fifth and the Xbox version landing in ninth.
However, strong sales of the next-gen Madden might be affected by EA's announcement this week that it will be releasing additional content on Xbox Live Marketplace. Some have hailed it as a savvy business move, while others have accused EA of trying to nickel and dime consumers by selling them features that should've been in the $60 game in the first place.
The week also saw a different sport finish strong--a sport that no single publisher has a monopoly on. Electronic Arts' NBA Live 07 debuted solidly in second (PS2) and fourth (Xbox 360) places, while rival NBA 2K7 from 2K Sports wound up in third (Xbox 360) and seventh (PS2). Sony's first-party basketball game, NBA 07, fared far worse, spending its first week in stores all the way down in 59th place.
Don't like sports? Well, three non-athletic titles made the top 10 during the week, and all of them were for Nintendo's ever-popular portable, the Nintendo DS. Enduring favorite New Super Mario Bros. remained on the chart at number six, followed by newcomers Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (eighth) and Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis (10th).
