Bestbuy.com best-sellers: October 29-November 4
Madden tops online retailer's top sellers once again, fends off Final Fantasy XII; GTA: Vice City Stories debuts strong.
While gamers were crushed by an onslaught of highly anticipated games this week in Gears of War, Call of Duty 3, Viva Piñata, and more, last week really had only one--Final Fantasy XII. Still, Square Enix's big gun couldn't topple the year's big gun.
Madden NFL 07 for the PlayStation 2 took the top spot once again on Bestbuy.com's sales charts for the week of October 29 to November 4. The EA juggernaut also took third (Xbox) and sixth (PlayStation Portable). The reason for the spike in sales is likely the result of the recent price cut by the publisher, which brought the PS2 and Xbox editions down to $39.99.
Final Fantasy XII landed in the number two slot in its first week of release, which may come to a surprise to some given its record shipment numbers. However, Bestbuy.com's charts do not take into account preorders, which no doubt took up a large portion of the anticipated game's sales.
Another debut, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, showed it's hard to keep a good carjacking, cop-shooting, gangbanging crime caper down, and settled in fourth place. The game is the second portable game from the current crop of GTA games, following last year's Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.
Rounding out the list last week was the DS duo of Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day (fifth) and New Super Mario Bros. (10th), a pair of Marvel Ultimate Alliances (Xbox 360 seventh, PlayStation 2 eighth), and the PS2 version of Need for Speed Carbon in ninth.
