Battlefield 3 preorder perks confirmed
EA offering complimentary access to Battlefield 2 throwback Back to Karkand map pack, weapons, vehicles to prepurchasers of modern warfare shooter.
Electronic Arts is positioning DICE's Battlefield franchise at the forefront of its first-person shooter army, and as such, it will be heavily promoting the release of Battlefield 3 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall. Preorder perks, of course, will be party to that campaign, and the publisher today confirmed rumors that emerged earlier this month that signaled the arrival of the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition.
As was the case for EA's latest Medal of Honor installment, the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition carries a standard edition price tag of $59.99 on all three platforms. Those who preorder the Limited Edition will gain free access to the Back to Karkand map pack. EA did not indicate whether the Back to Karkand pack will be available to those who do not prepurchase Battlefield 3 and had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.
Highlighting the Back to Karkand map pack are four playfields from Battlefield 2 that have been updated with DICE's new Frostbite 2 engine. Unfortunately, EA did not indicate which classic Battlefield 2 maps would be included in the pack. Gamers will also find an assortment of Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, as well as "unique rewards" and achievements/trophies.
Along with announcing the preorder incentives, EA also unspooled Battlefield 3's first public gameplay trailer. Seen below, the trailer offers quick glimpses of what the Frostbite 2 engine has in store as soldiers are shown navigating the perils of war in an urban setting.

I'm just sick of the console fps' these days... I live in Australia where a $59 game costs $109 and 1500 Microsoft points costs $30. Activision and EA are the same, they sell great games while ripping everyone off with overpriced DLC and excluding those who don't buy it or preorder the game. Jesus Christ I wish Valve made CoD or Battlefield...
I was a fan of mw2 then activision just had to f-up and ditched inifity and picked treyarch... which instead of upgrading from mw2, they downgraded and released blackops. Honestly, BF wasn't even a competition to mw series but now they will never catch up to the bf series. hands down for this bf3.. just... wow......... F activision, refund my money for my blackops, hail to EA!
BF2 was amazing in countless ways. I spend hundreds if not thousands of hours playing it. If BF3 is only half as good as BF2 it'll still deserve to be GOTY. I miss the days when you would play and see a airplane or jet fly over head and run and hide. try to get around it and shoot it down. flying with jets in dog fights or bombing runs. helicopter support and moving between/around buildings to avoid being shot down. going with a tank to clear the path with a Humvee and people around you trying to take a flag, Walking and hearing the first signs of an artillery and having to find cover or die. Seeing a guy try to get too fancy with a tank and fall into the pool in gulf of oman. Easily some of the most memorable and enjoyable fps moments online i've ever had.
*duderdave Posted Feb 25, 2011 4:39 pm GMT Looking good so far. As for the maps; - Wake Island ok - Strike at Karkand of course - no brainer - Gulf of Oman ok - Sharqi Peninsula NO, NO, and NO!!! For crying out loud, sharqi is one of the worst maps and biggest insults to the Marine Corps ever!!! No MEU in its right mind would ever set up the way it is set up on that map - it's pure insanity. The majority of a lot of gameplay simply revolves around mec eventually taking the tv tower, blowing up all the Marine assets so stupidly hugging the station, and then blasting away freely with BOTH attack helicopters until the Marines are ground into powder. I wouldn't mind something like the city section of that map, but for gosh sakes, please somebody bury this map and be done with it. It is an insult to the game.* yes but what about that one where us vs china there is only one way onto mainland that is very easily defended- the us rarely stands a chance.
So this means maps AND weapons? or just the 4 maps? I'm just praying for the G36C!

They should remake some BF2: Modern Combat maps as well like "Bridge Too Far" and "Backstab"
Missing WW2 theme. Especially in BF games. MOH and COD was just crap with WW2. WW2 and BF had a perfect balance b/c of its simplicity. Now we got to deal with 4x scopes on every gun, with 30 rounds, and models with body armor that doesnt protect from bullets. hurray! Not to mention BF became what it is today thanks to its WW2 theme. Its no wonder so many people play BF1 still.
yeeeee
64 Players YUMMmmm I think many console players are getting PC's because of this game ^^

Its been tried before jshaas, and the cross platform support was patched out super fast because the kb/mouse folks we're just molesting the gamepad dudes.
they cant cross platform BF3 because of hardware limitations. Console only gets 24 players, PC gets 64. Maps will most likely be VERY different in size, not to mention console users getting destroyed by mouse and keyboard users (We've seen this is past cross platform titles)
EA/DICE should make the MP where PS3, PC, and 360 players can all play one another. I personally think this should be much more common. Don't tell me it's not possible either. Valve is doing it with Portal 2 (PC & PS3). FFXI did it with PS2, PC, and later 360. This would put a whole new meaning to System Wars!;)
@ u-got-served It's all in the picture - Back to Karkand DLC will be available for purchase a month after the game hits the shelves. This way, you will have to pay more if you won't pre-order. On EA UK game forums an official posted that the four maps will be: - Wake Island - Strike at Karkand - Gulf of Oman and - Sharqi Peninsula GameSpot should read more carefully before they post something :/ "EA did not indicate whether the Back to Karkand pack will be available to those who do not prepurchase Battlefield 3 and had not responded to requests for comment as of press time." O rly GSpot? Well check what's written in the picture you posted with the news: "For those who don't pre-order to secure the limited edition, Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand expansion content will be available for purchase approximately one month after the game's release."
I have a question if anyone nows . If you do not preorder the game, after a month would you have the 4 maps of BF2 ???????
I would love a map like the area shown in this trailer for the MP. There is no doubt an area like that would be amazing in Multiplayer. The only thing I could ask that they do not have return from Battlefield BC2 would be a stationary tank killing my allies when nobody is even in the tank. BTW to any CoD Fans, not hating because I play CoD, but seriously, you guys need to get out and get some fresh air. Maybe go preorder this game and try this out. I would definitely like some easy competition.
I'd pay $100 for this game any day
PC pre-order locked up already. i will scoop this for XB as well.
roll over bad company, battlefield is back baby! I so hope this delivers on its good name.... big battles, big air and ground fights and real longevity... like the first 2! if this has the medal of honor feel, with the battlefield sized maps and hardware/vehicles, omg!!!
About time. Wake island was my favourite so i hope they release that but im just glad theres another one :D
Very excited about BF3, the trailer footage looks incredible. Given it's DICE you know that the multi-player will be a beautifully balanced and enjoyable affair, they are true masters of their craft in this respect. I just hope they continue to improve their single player experience and further expand Frostbite's destructible environments.
i hope they redo wake island, karkand is gonna be there but i also want kubra dam :) my fav 3 maps from bf2
I will be pre-ordering this game, BF has always been good
OOOOOHH sorry my bad i just didnt notice the absence of the Bad Company lool ok then ignore all my comments i said before @TroubleMaker411 and @TazSteele :) Go Battlefield non Bad Comaony line :D
@TroubleMaker411 ahh ok then thanks for clearing it up :) i only dabbled in the PC ones but i really liked the tongue in cheek style of Battlefield Bad Company. If they want to bring Battlefield back then should start up a new line of Battlefield games, not use Bad Company
Well the only battlefield game I personally owned was Battlefield 1942 (also tried BF2 & BF2142 demos), but I've played enough to know that this game is a definate pickup. In my opinion, the Battlefield series blows COD out of the water. I'll be honest I occasionally play Black Ops but there's really no comparison. I love that "oh crap" feeling of running down the street to see a tank turn the corner or if you're a bad pilot like I am trying to fly or even the time I rammed my pt boat onto the shore but didn't know how to open the hatch lol. Battlefield games aren't just another FPS experience they're the entire war experience.
fk yeah.. battlefield is back!!!
Like i said on the HD video for BF3... CoD just got raped!!!
@muyrapido "oh man, i think i want it" 'You'd *think* you want it'? NO! You MUST want it!
OMG!!!!!, This a must buy game!. Real Fps shooter game not a lame, crap favela shoot on black ops i still can get it had such a good review? 8.5 common hahaha Battlefield bad company will RULE!!! luv this game coperative tactics and huge warfare! XD
"Battlefield 3 preorder perks confirmed" No details of perks and bonuses are given. -_- Stupid gimmicks to charge $60 instead of $50.
Looking forward to another massive scale shooter. It's one thing Call Of Duty fails to capture. CoD is good, don't get me wrong, but it has more of a focus on FFA Death Match and close quarter skirmishes. I remember playing BF1942 when I was younger and being blown away by the massive 64 player battlefields. Riding battleships and beaching them on shore... good times.
@Bradley7777 Simply FAIL! Sorry dude, but you do appear to have missed out on some of the greatest FPS games ever made with the REAL battlefield games from the PC! Bad company, while awesome, was an offshoot of the Battlefield games and as such, Battlefield is coming back to show all you gamers too young to remember the originals how FPS's should be done
@Bradley7777 dude, this IS NOT Bad Company! This is BF3.....Battlefield started WAY back on PC with BF1942......you obviously have not played any of the Battlefield series, other than Bad Company. BF2 is one of the best FPS ever and this game will trump it.......believe me, there is nothing like it on the market.
looks good.. well really good.... and epic... and amazing... and stunning... omg i cant wait..
Its looking good, but why did they have to go serious :( the stand-out thing for the first bad Company was the tongue-in-cheek satire of war. Its a shame there trying to be like the rest of the market
Pre-Order for "Back to Karkand" is worth it alone. Everyone's favorite map from BF2.....for those of you that haven't played it.....some of the best online gaming you will ever experience. It won't be extra money for pre-ordering the LE.....stop making EA out to be monsters that are money hungry.....you will get map packs for free just like in Bad Company 2...that's right FREE.....not like MW2 that re-hashes old maps and charges $15 for it! This game WILL be Epic.

@Psythce , well of course they're showing gameplay. the only thing is that it doesn't show the HUD.
I dont know if any of you realized this, but if you read Game Informer which tells all about Battlefield 3, at 00:16, where there running down the alley, it's the same alley in GI that they show us as IN-GAME Footage, and what the New Engine can accomplish. I think they are showing everyone in-game footage and nobody even knows it.
The impending release of this game makes me all kinds of happy. I've always found the PC Battlefield series to be exactly the correct style FPS for my game play, so really looking forwards to wasting my time playing it...well, maybe not waste exactly.
So this is going to be Battlefield 3 rather than Bad Company 3 I take it. You see the different visual style when compared to Bad Company and if the above footage is in-game it looks like the already excellent franchise has taken a step forward graphically. Looking good EA, cant wait :)
oh man, i think i want it
And this one is a bit more slower, with no voice-over: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_i_WKRJSqk (Sorry for the double post)
If you want to see the video for Battlefield 3 slower, then look at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh4eHHOHuyg
The teaser trailer is very effective I must admit. Will eagerly await gameplay footage.
I watched this video yesterday, and it looks amazing. I hope that's what in-game footage will look like. This will definitely be my next shooter... just got KZ3 so that'll hold me over until then! @MoK86... you should read the new issue of Gameinformer. It has several pages on this game, and reasons (good reasons) for the kill cam and other tactics of the multiplayer.
@warhawk-geeby... First of all Battlefield 3 will be $60 for the LE. Same as every other non-limited edition game. They aren't charging more for anything. They're giving us an incentive to pre-order and buy new. Which leads me to your complaint about the online access codes. You only have to pay if the game is pre-ownded. I'm not a fan of it either, but it helps them recoup some of the money they're not getting from used game sales.
