@Kooken58 yeah, i played it on the 360, i'm sure its much better on the pc, i'm still going to get the game no doubt, can't really judge a game on a beta. I would love to check it out on the pc at some point, i'm sure i'll find a friend with it on a pc, but yes your right, i wasn't that impressed with the operation metro, i mean it was cool, but i was expecting more. I'm still sold on the game tho, i'm sure it'll be sick
DICE adds 64-player Caspian Border map to PC iteration of ongoing multiplayer trial; Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 game to get "HD installation content" option.
The multiplayer beta for Battlefield 3 is scheduled to end in just three days, but that's not stopping Swedish developer DICE from continuing to freshen the experience…at least for PC players.
Writing on the official Battlefield Battlelog, DICE community manager Ian Tornay announced that the PC iteration of the Battlefield 3 beta will add the new large-scale map called Caspian Border today. Gamers will be able to play on the new map until the beta ends on October 10.
According to Tornay, Caspian Border will not be extended to the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 iterations of the beta because the map is specifically designed to stress test a 64-player scenario. As was announced earlier, the console versions of Battlefield 3 will support only 24 simultaneous players.
The beta for Battlefield 3 is currently available to all on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PCs, and it ends on October 10. In the full game, Battlefield 3 will sport both a single-player campaign and an online component, which can be played with up to 64 players (for the PC version only). It will also support co-op play for its campaign and will let gamers pilot jets, among other vehicles.
EA also confirmed that the console versions of Battlefield 3 will offer optional "HD installation content," allowing for more detailed in-game textures. The feature will be available on both Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Battlefield 3.
For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Battlefield 3.
@datniccah187 played on console right??? Before caspian border was released i barely played the beta....operation metro just wasnt fun and was small and boring....Caspian border hits and i find myself having all kinds of fun and playing for hours straight! @MW2ismygame Orgin and battlelog arnt to bad...Orgin is just like steam pretty much, doubt ill use it other than to play bf3....as for battlelog, it was a lil strange at first launching the game from it but its rather convenient....The server browser works alot better than the ingame server browser from previous games.
Played the beta.....was not impressed. Was expecting more with all the hype, that being said, it was just the beta, and just one mode. I'm sure the final build will be much better.....I hope nEways lol
@protokyoto If there was an emoticon of the rock-on hand sign I'd totally be sending that to you right now. Nice to see an opinionated but non-biased gamer :)
@jollybest1 Yah, cheaters are the worst part. Re hardware, sure, you don't need top of the class to play comfortably, though, you do need decent hardware to make your game look significantly better than the console. In multiplayer, I think that hardware does make some difference; at least for me, as I'm finding my gaming mouse (old Logitech G3) behaving better than my "work" mouse. I couldn't try much more than that as I'm leftie. If you're good, you are good no matter what (likewise if you are bad) but difference between PC hardware (graphics and controls) is bigger than difference players can achieve within console options. But that is absolutely minor compared to cheats. It is not just cheating - it is also psychological aspect of it. When I respawn in a PC game and get head-shot within a seconds, there's always that little demon inside my mind nibbling at possibility that guy is using some cheat - or is he really that good and gaming on some uber-SLI on 27" screen and can spot me more easy from across the battlefield? So at the end of a day, my fun gets a bit spoiled with that doubt even if the guy is perfectly legit. That might be only me over-thinking a bit, but I don't think so. I'm very average gamer, and even then I was couple of times accused of cheating after some lucky kills. I'm guessing that really good players get that crap much more often.
@MW2ismygame well battle log is something i look forward to so don't assume. and the HD pack will prob be free. EA isn't ACTIVISION. also there wherent vehicles on the consoles because they would prob over load. i mean the beta overloaded day 1
@uk_friday yeah im sure the only people who cancled were the COD fanboys who played one game and sucked because they went all lone wolf and now its the games fault then right? and speaking of cod am i the only one mad that the beta map was a small map with no vehicles so they could convert COD players to BF? i felt like that was a big middle finger by EA. and yes i said EA because they are the people that are doing all the stupid things with this game like battlelog and origin which nobody wants!! "EA also confirmed that the console versions of Battlefield 3 will offer optional "HD installation content," _____ok and how much will it be? knowing EA. but w/e all i know is come october 25 my xbox will have one heck of a workout
The week and change of the beta just got me more worked up for the initial release. I loved my time with the Caspian Border map, it felt just so damn epic. Since everyone else is spouting off stats, I was able to run it with all settings maxed a 1680x1050 (max rez for my monitor) Phenom X4 @ 3.4Ghz 16gb ram (@1600hz) 2 xHD5870 (1gb each) Win 7 64bit
A tip for peeps put off by cheats in multiplayer pc games - Find a server where the admins are online lots or a clan server that you like, cheats don't last long in a well managed enviroment. Or even better join a clan that have their own server, FPS gaming takes on a whole new world when you've got a good team behind you.
@kais112----In metro, yes- but caspian, probably not.. You'll most likely have to turn a few settings to high (there is NO noticeable difference on my 40" screen)... One strange thing I noticed (maybe just the beta) is that if i change the AA to anything other than max (x16), it's choppier somehow! weird, but not complaining because it's still silky smooth.. Your OC isn't pathetic, I'll be happy to push mine to 3.2 one of these days when I'll finally need to! Your 560 should fare thee well.... In fact, you'll surely be able to get some AA and ambient occlusion with full res... change the AO to "SSAO"; it's the 2nd highest setting and doesn't tax your system as much. All this talk is getting me excited haha cheers
@james_324 i can run it everything ultra 1920x1080 120Hz without AA and ambient occlusion at 40-50fps Q6600 2.4GHz OC to 2.7GHz (i know pathetic) 4GB RAM GTX560 1GB
@marvelx3-----Those specs are borderline.. the settings would have to be set in a way that it will look like consoles, but at least you'll have the 64 player combat! Then you can just upgrade as you go.... I can run everything on ultra at 1080p with full AA and ambient occlusion on operation metro and get perfectly smooth frame rates, but on caspian I change some settings to high (still with full HD and AA) and it runs as smooth as bc2!! My system is: Phenom II x4 @2.8ghz 4 GB Ram Radeon 5870 1G Windows 7 64bit Happy shooting!
This game is very well optimized. The textures are simply amazing. I'm running everything maxed out with no problem or slowdown.
@The_GooBear Are you a giant? I mean I know some guys that have arms like lumberjacks and they can play their PS3's just fine....and if you took the time to learn the system you would find that the PS3 is good for quite a bit more than just exclusives. I personally use it for multiple things for example: Bluray movies, internet browser, social media (PSHOME), amazing exclusives, lower priced multiplats that are almost always at the exact same level of quality as the 360 versions, free online gaming (that despite what most 360 fanboys will tell you is actually just as stable as LIVE[I had LIVE for 13 months so I think I have enough of an understanding of their setup]), etc. Personally I have all three of this gen's systems and I love them all almost equally as they all have some amazing merits. Don't hate, just game.
That video was nuts. I downloaded the beta over a week ago but still haven't got round to playing it due to Resistance 3 and Deus Ex taking up my time.. I've just realised however that the beta closes today.. what a bum :( @The_GooBear I'd love to know just how big these 'man hands' of yours are.. I've never had a problem with the controller - but then maybe my hands just aren't 'man' enough? Must be all that internet exercise making them so big.... :| ..... ...... :o .......... :x ................ ....
Keep in mind that Battlefield 3 was developed specifically for PC, not for console. Yes, everything looks and plays better on PC because they are working with state-of-the-art hardware. The Xbox is 6 years old and is showing its age. DICE is pushing the Xbox as far as it will go. Face it folks, there are just too many hardware limitations on consoles.
@nikon133 Your reasons do hold water. But Razer hardware doesnt give any unfair advantage, its just much more comfortable to use.Razer equipment is availble on consoles too,BTW(Razer Onza,Xbox controller). Also,I find the stiffness of controllers very unnarural,it doesnt add to any feeling of "reality".And dont forget, contollers use auto aim,and that kills the "reality" feel even more. Also, games arent reallity,no matter how hard they try,so precision is important. As for cheating on PC,I very rarely find it,anti-cheat systems of server admins take care of cheaters very fast. @marvelx3 No worries,it will suffice. You wont be able to Max the game or anything, but you will be able to play it.
HD installation content for consoles- hell yeah! This just keeps getting better. I just hope it'll still make the game run smooth as it would normally (without that option that is). Im also glad to know that the campaign can be played with a friend too. PC release looks f'kin ace!! Pity the EU release is on the 28th. Bring on the Warfare!!!
@The_GooBear I personally dont think ps3 is as bad as you make it out to be. I've worked in GAME for quite a while and ive seen more people trade in their xbox for a ps3. These consoles are out-dated anyways. They don't deserve the 'next gen' title anymore... And bout your 'man hands' issue with the ps3 controller, there are xbox 360 controller replicas for the ps3 that might just solve your problem.
core i5 @ 2.6ghz, 3gig ddr3, geforce 250gt. Please gamers, will this suffice for BF3. I dont want to play this game on my xbox.
@grove12345 Or maybe DICE thought people would realise IT'S A BETA.... Anyway I've been having a blast on the beta the new maps great it's just a shame people have been playing to much COD so instead of working as a team keep running off trying to be Rambo and then complain because they get owned Cant wait to get my hands on the full version so I can finally use my joystick and do some flying (well proper flying trying to fly a jet with is mouse is annoying)
@The_GooBear the game will already look amazing without the texture pack, it will just look even more amazing with it installed
@nikon133 You don't need overrated hardware to play a good game on the pc , i have a mouse and a keyboard that costed me both 8-9 Euros and i can play online games as good as the ones that use overrated hardware and you can use a controller if you wish , but yes if you have a bad video card and most players have state of the art video cards (you don't need that much but most buy that kind of cards because they want to brag or some are technology junkies)....A good card costs far less than most of the "state of the art" ones and it can be good. But i do agree that cheaters are a big issue, they s*** at playing games and they destroy the gaming experience for all of us. The annoying thing is that some do it to piss us off OR THEY REALY SUC*
DICE was willing to shoot themselves in the foot just to test servers? "Here is a old build of a game we hope to sell to you guys. Destruction isnt fully done, its an old build and even though you are beta testers you wont get any updated versions, there are lots of glitches, weapons are imbalanced, the map is Infantry only, and again we dont want release an update to you even though it plays horribly. But we did it to stress test the servers. Ya sure we could of either done this later with an actual DEMO version, but we wanted millions of users to experience the pain of playing this map in hopes that you have faith that the final product runs great" God i hope there is a final demo before release.
I'm sick of seeing "It's just a beta". Gears3 had a beta and the feedback really helped to perfect the full game. If the beta has issues, specify what they are so they can take action to fix it and stop being so defensive about it. I would hate to see these issues when i purchase the retail game so let it be known if you find something out of the norm
@bluebird08 HDD space isn't an issue. It's the hassle of having to download an add-on so the game will look optimal for my console. Besides that I own a PS3 and imo it's good for nothing but exclusives and collecting dust. No offense but I have man hands and the PS3 controller just can't accomadate them
@ Wiz1974 I was almost PC-only until 2 years ago (I had PS2 at the time but haven't used it much outside of GT4 and God of War games). I still upgrade/replace my PC often and keep it up to specs, but gaming-wise I use it for co-ops, single players and friends' lan-party multiplayers (where we can molest the one who dares to cheat ;) Last PC on-line I played was free Battlefield Heroes, and it was really sad so many people were cheating in free game (at the time I stopped playing it). Unfortunately I'm married so I can't justify in front of my, err, "concious-other-half" purchase of X360, otherwise I'd add that to my little collection as well. I don't care about the platform - good time is all that matters.
Wow. Thats gay Unfortanately I dont have $500 -1000 extra bucks to upgrade. So guess Ill be missing out, but Im perfectly happy with consoles. (At least till Skyrim comes out, then Im so saving my money to upgrade my pc!)
I for one had a ball playing the Beta, sure it was full of bugs, but, as everyone has said, ITS A BETA!! not buying into the console v PC war, I have PC, PS3 and xBox 360, and still prefer my PC for almost every type of gaming. Its a love affair I have had and will have my whole life, ever since the days of my Vic 20 :) I guess until the 25th I will have to keep myself busy playing Rage ;) @Nikon133 I can completely understand your motives. I like that you were able to express your opinion without bad mouthing platforms that arent your preference. I do agree that cheating is a problem on PC, some games more so than any. FEAR i had to stop playing because the cheating got so out of hand it was ridiculous. As a fair playing thats just in it for fun it became impossible to enjoy
@Rocker6 I'd completely agree with you was it not for cheating on PC. I gave up on PC online games after I was witness of some obvious and really annoying cheats. As a result I ended up playing Bad Company 2 online only on PS3, and even if game did look better on my PC, fair multiplayer won for me. In addition... While mouse does allow for better precision and faster response, it does not make the game more realistic (which I like to see in shooters like this). A soldier with 40+ kg of equipment on him cannot turn around that fast anyway, so I'm finding controller closer to reality - as in you have to think a bit more than just to rely on your reflexes. And finally - while I do have grunty PC (QC, ATI 6870, 8GB RAM) I'm finding it more fair to multiplay on console where everyone has same hardware. No uber-sensitive Razer mice, anti-ghosting keyboards etc. Those are my reasons for choosing PS3 over PC for BF3. They might not be yours, but I think they hold some water.
I'm still getting it so don't hate me but they should have made console trailers/ previews for PSN and XBLM. The HD videos taken from PC were very misleading because I still had hope after playing Crysis 2 on console (360). I'm not to fond of the way DICE adds optional content like the VIP pass from BFBC2. If u bought the game used u were practically screwed into paying for it so lets hope for people who purchase it later that it's a free download (not likely when the say "offer". It could easily have been turned to disc content if they had considered it earlier
@sneakthief81: if you have the Hard drive space, you can download an HD pack that will make the game look better. The textures in the game will be of higher quality.
Man...if most of you did the playtests that I do for a certain game company, you would NEVER buy a game. I play games in alpha and early beta stages, and the bugs are ridiculous, but I know what the purpose is for. This is the problem with an open beta. Too many ignorant fanboys.
"EA also confirmed that the console versions of Battlefield 3 will offer optional "HD installation content," allowing for more detailed in-game textures." I'm a layman..can someone educate me on this?..
@oflow I would disagree with all the things you said, except maybe how consoles are better for social gaming.First, the genre that truly shines on PC is FPS genre, mouse and keyboard are much more precise than any controller. And even if you dont like them, plug in a controler, problem solved. DRM and GFWL?GFWL is almost extinct, not too many games use it,and since you had a choice to make an offline profile,I see no problems there,it would never stand in your way. There are enough of good games released for PC lately, and dont forget,we have mods, and that helps to keep the balance. DRM isnt too much of a problem lately, very few games have it,and sometimes, its even removed, like in From Dust.Devs arent that stupid(most of them anyways),they know it will lead to huge boycotts and low sales. Also,as far as I know, consoles have patches too,and BF3 is much better on PC,64 players, signifficantly better graphics, and mouse and keyboard. It doesnt just "look a lil better". I also own a console,a PS3,its decent enough, had a lot fun with exclusives like Demon's Souls,MGS4,Uncharted,etc,but I would never pick it over my PC.Every multiplatform title is always better on PC for me.Your comment somehow makes me doubt you have a high end gaming PC.
Yeah WHAT THE HELL IS WITH PEOPLE NOT RECOGNIZING IT'S A BETA?!? So many people I talked to don't want to get this game now.... pisses me off...
For me, i loved Operation Metro. Unlike some people i understood it was a beta. So playing Caspian Border would blow my mind. Too bad my PC isn't upgraded =[
@ Vaultboy-101 It's a known fact that PC's have THE ABILITY to be better than consoles. There is a difference.
Playing Xbox One games on somebody else's console will also require a check-in every hour. Full Story
