Lego Batman 2 beats newcomer The Amazing Spider-Man in comic-book contest for number one; strong Vita sales propel Metal Gear Solid HD Collection into top 10; Spec Ops hits at three.
Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes hung on to the top spot last week, fending off new release The Amazing Spider-Man into second place. Two further debuts made the top five last week: Spec Ops: The Line hit the chart in third, while Sega's London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games got a sporting chance at four. FIFA 12's 40th week in the chart sees it drop three places from last week to complete the top five.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier fell three places despite its PC release, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim climbed one place to seven thanks to the release of its Dawnguard expansion. Max Payne 3 drops four places to eight followed by chart regular Battlefield 3 at nine, giving Take-Two and EA two top 10 titles each. The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection scraped into the top 10, with its Vita release last week inducing a 532 percent increase in the game's sales, making it one of the platform's biggest releases since launch.
Newly released last week PS3 exclusive The Ratchet & Clank Collection narrowly missed out on the top 10 at 11, Mass Effect 3 jumped 21 places to 15 thanks to the release of its Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut DLC, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary's retailer promotion meant it reentered at 21.
This week sees the release of RPG offerings The Secret World and turn-based PS3 exclusive Rainbow Moon. Two rhythm games also reach European shores this weak: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise (released in the US as Rhythm Heaven Fever).

"Strong Vita sales". That's encouraging. Maybe we will start seeing a decent amount of games for the Vita after all.
First of all this game deserves a much better score than 6.5. I think the reviewer forgot to take into account its target audience. My 4yr old loves the lego games and the entire franchise is one of the few out there when a parent can actually play the game with their kids. The reason it has topped the charts is simple, its target audience is anyone under 13, living at home with no income of thier own so it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out "who" is purchasing the game for them....
Not when the review backs up the rating. The editor said that problems keep on showing up that have plagued the lego games for years, such as bad AI. You don't get a high rating if you don't patch bad programming.
Bloody hell, didn't realise how popular FiFA actually is! Personally I can't stand it and much prefer street but I think I'm alone there.
Also I think that the Lego Batman looks surprisingly good so doesn't surprise me that it has beat Spiderman. Probably people put off by the less than great games that have come before it.
I really dislike DC (Marvel fan through and through here!) but Batman is way better than spiderman. Then again, spiderman is one of my least favorite major marvel characters.
(sigh) I hate this time of year for video games. There is simply nothing worth buying at the moment. Since most of the games worth having a look at were bumped, I guess I have to wait until, what, September, for something worth picking up?
I'm sorry, but the segment concerning MGS and the Vita doesn't make sense. So did the sales of MGS increase by 532%?
Well done Batman - it is a great game. I have to say we rented London 2012 over the weekend and can't remember the last time we had so much fun with that type of game. The button mashing isn't painful - more about rhythm that pure speed and lots and lots of different events. With 4 player multi-player and the choice to go solo or in teams it's one that we will be picking up!!
