$100 collector's edition spotted for Xbox 360 and PS3 on Best Buy's online store; premium bonuses unknown.
The Caped Crusader is an elusive figure, fighting crime and slipping away just as mysteriously as he arrived. Sticking to that approach, the collector's edition for Batman: Arkham City is similarly mystifying.
A listing for Batman: Arkham City Collector's Edition has popped up on national retailer Best Buy. The listing states that the premium iteration of the game will sell for $100 and will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Unfortunately, the contents of the collector's edition are unknown, as the game's product description is empty. As of press time, Warner Bros. had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment or clarification on the matter.
I think it would be cool if the Collector's Edition included a comic book relevant to the game's storyline, or possibly a story within the game. If not, I'll probably just pass on it.
@endorbr My Halo Reach statue is just sitting around. But it looks so awesome. It's on my desk next to my computer. And I have a Halo hat sitting on top of the rock of the statue as well. It may just be a decoration, but it looks sweet in my room, and it lets me show my fanboyism lol.
I'll admit I'm interested.. but damn too much money this year on games will leave me poor. On a side note, I get annoyed at people that call him the Caped Crusader(the goofy nice joke cracking version with blue in his costume).. if it wasn't for batman being remade as The Dark Knight, he would probably have died off long ago. Sales and popularity only sky rocketed when batman turned dark.
"The Caped Crusader is an elusive figure, fighting crime and slipping away just as mysteriously as he arrived. Sticking to that approach, the collector's edition for Batman: Arkham City is similarly mystifying." This is incredibly cheesy
I don't understand purchasing a collector's edition of anything really. What do they give you? A bunch of stuff you thought was kinda cool at first glance but basically just winds up sitting around your house taking up space.
I would accept a less than $5 increase on the price of one of these triple-A releases if I got all of the various pre-order-buy-it-from-us-DLC at release.
The various exclusives just seem like a bunch of corporate execs/sales types stroking their egos and sucking up to the bosses over the deal they swung. I suspect the goodwill from the customers alone would be worth it. Plus not having to create all those codes and programming to keep it locked up on the disc. Just sell us the whole game at launch already. (I'm leaving aside down the road genuine DLC that isn't ready when the code goes gold.)
I hope it wont be dissapointing as the last one. A scrached batarang looks cheap, the leather agenda was only the Bio on paper that you could read in the game and DLC of challenge rooms. The DVD with it was weird. I dont know for 360 version, but on PS3, when the game is in the PS3, going in the video section you could see what was on the dvd. THEY PUT IT ON THE GAME DISC AND ANOTHER DISC. Most dissapointing collector Editions in my opinion. A surprise if this one is great.
The collectors edition for the first game was kind of a let down (the batarang was horrible and scratched which is apparently what they was going for!) but if I like the look of the second CE, what can I say I am a sucker for a collectors edition and have disposable income....
@Stiler The Reach Legendary edition made me SO angry!!! It's only about $90 in most places now. That's why I'm only getting the LE of Gears 3 rather than the Epic. I'll get the statue and art book for about $40 later down the road, rather than $70 on release.
@ Stiler It's because companies no longer look at them as something only a few hardcore obsessed fans will buy. They see it as a way to get us to buy the same game for more money with a few in-game items that should have been released with the full game in the first place. DLC and exclusive content needs to go away! If they want to have a CE with some kind of out of game collectors item, I am down for that, they'll make less of them and the hardcore fans have something to get that others don't.
Why do people bother with these supposed "CE's" anymore? They used to be actually limited but now they make sooo many of them that you can simply buy it down the road for FAR less then retail since after a few months the retailers want them off the shelves bad. Look at the Halo 3 CE, Bioshock 2 CE (Bioshock 1 was actually limited, gasp!) and Gears of War 2 ce. All dirt cheap just months down the road.
As long as the contents are better than the ones in Asylum (the "scratched", cheap boomerang) I'll buy it...
I'm afraid of publisher's greedy will destroy great game by this way. Gamers should be treated equal.
@gokuofheaven You ask too much of me, stranger... Are you telling me I should have waited on the Witcher 2's CE?!
same price as the inFamous and Uncharted collector editions - once they announce, then we'll all have to decide. I think the last one wasn't bad, from what I remember. I am a sucker for this kind of stuff :)
With the recent decline in price for all CE's out there, give this one a couple of months after release and the same will happen. Just like the first Batman, the CE's were on Amazon black friday / lightning deal sales for half the price. Just..be...patient.
@Blastalot5 Well, you have to be obsessed with whatever it is in the first place anyway. Part of the requirement for being a collector. It doesn't really sound so out there if you're a collector in the first place, does it? But a lot of people spend money on these things because they like to pretend they're collectors and then let the stuff take up closet space. These things are pretty neat if you have a place on a shelf for them next to other game paraphernalia. Unfortunately, I don't have a man cave yet so I have no place for it however I do desperately want the Marcus statue for Gears of War 3.
@Henninger yea prob a plastic utility belt and a little book paper booklet of inmates of arkham, plus ur copy of the game... worth anyones $100 that is
@jhawk Exactly! I think that the more of us that notice this and stop supporting this kind of abuse the faster they will buckle up. Companies don't like to loose profits. I can only imagine the profits. With $100.00 you can almost buy two games. Or very nice batman action figure. A little more and you can afford DC Comic's Gotham Knight Statue. Real collectibles!
this is gonna be a very good game but its already ridiculous to pay $60 for a game and then pay $100 for an additional action figure......(RIP-OFF)
@Da1ShrpSh0trGrl Glad to see you're not the only one who noticed that! Don't get me wrong I like extra content in a game and all, but c'mon, $100.00??! Yikes, I'll be buying this game for sure, just NOT the CE!
@e424pd5 You are absolutely right! Please people understand that special bundles are sweet to have but very over priced. DLC is just game content held for profits. We are being abused here. Am all pro extra content but these things are way over priced.
The ironic thing about the special edition craze is that none of the games I would even consider paying 100 dollars for actually get one. Final Fantasy 13 and Zelda Skyward sword for example. Batman is one of my three or four most anticpated games, but 100 dollars is just too much. Same problem with Infamous 2, Assasin's Creed Brotherhood, God of War 3 etc. I wish developers would give reasonable 70-80 dollar nice special editions instead of the way overpriced ones they keep doing. Otherwise i'll stick to the standard edition and get it in a new release deal (TRU, amazon etc.)
man, this better come with a batman trade, or something. if so, id want "broken city" in the bundle.
