Supergiant Games reveals new sales milestone for downloadable role-playing game; 90 percent of sales came after original launch month.
During a presentation today at D.I.C.E. in Las Vegas (attended by Joystiq), Supergiant Games founder Amir Rao revealed Bastion has sold 1.7 million copies across all platforms.
Rao's discussion focused on how the company went about porting the game from Xbox Live Arcade to PC and mobile devices. He said not shipping the game simultaneously across all platforms did not hurt its sales.
In fact, Rao said over 90 percent of all Bastion sales came after the game's original launch month on XBLA during summer 2011. "We didn't lose an opportunity by not sim [simultaneously] shipping," Rao said.
Bastion is Supergiant Games' first project. It was released on Xbox Live during July 2011, with subsequent releases following on Steam, the Mac App Store, Google Chrome, and iOS. For more on Bastion, check out GameSpot's review.

Not a bad game but I just didn't get drawn into it. I played through it for a couple of hours but it never seemed to really pick up for me. The narration is cool, as is the aesthetic design. I just found the gameplay really lacking. Still, it could be just it's just not my cup of tea.
Although I like this game a lot, I don't know that I'd go as far as to label it a role playing game. It has role playing elements, but it's certainly not a full fledged role playing game.
@emptycow @LAnoirFAN Yeah, all three awesome games made for PC that aren't available on consoles. Meanwhile, he'll be missing out on dozens and dozens of console-exclusive games.

It's not on PS3? I was sure I played a demo on PS3 (before it broke). I don't have an Xbox and my PC is new.
Anyway I'm glad it is successful. This is the kind of creativity the industry needs.
This is the kind of thing publishers need to take note of. The Indie scene is thriving from this notion, that no day one sales doesn't mean all that much.
Publishers deny so many great games as they won't recoup their money in the first week. This is how the games industry should be, not put a shed load in to expect a massive return week one, then next week onto something else. A good game, will continue to generate sales long after releaase from all the people that have missed it and hear from the other half how great it is.

One of those things that is impossible to really "know". I bought the game after XBL had it on sale. As much fun as I had/am having with the game, I'd have bought it with the purchase of my first tablet as well, even if the tablet version wasn't on sale.
@xRoYx It's a decent game, give it a chance if you can. I'm pretty sure you can get a demo on XBL, but only because that's usually par for the course when it comes to games on XBL. The real star isn't you or the main character, but the narrator. He makes everything seem fine......
This is the only game I have on Steam that I've gotten all the achievements for. It was that fun that I just didn't want to stop. I'm surprised that it's only sold 1.7 million.
@Dessicator Its the only game that I got on steam that I never played for more than 1h. glad I only paid 10$ for it and will be able to play whenever I want.
A fantastic game. I bought it a week before it went on sale on iOS for $1, I paid the regular $5, and I am completely okay with that because this is a game worth supporting. Beautiful soundtrack, awesome alluring world, great story, frantic gameplay, Greg Kasavin.
I actually started playing this game finally in just the last month. And have enjoyed it a fair bit. First play through I will admit. Very confusing..... but the second play through helps the story come together. As the story felt like it clicked for me. As for gameplay.... its fun and even funner when you have all the difficulty modifiers turned on. Makes some of the fights feel very frantic which I miss from a ton of games these days.

2 Like I've 100%'ed this game on Steam and can honestly say it's been one of my favorite games since I purchased it. The value of this game is comparable to that of full-priced PC and console games and I've been very satisfied. I will follow this developer and will most likely purchase any future titles from them.

I own Bastion for PC via Gamersgate (DRM-free, btw). The Gamersgate Bastion is not only non-DRMed, but also comes with the installers for Windows, Mac and Linux...all in the same folder. Plus, it supports Xinput (360 and Logitech F series) controllers. So it's probably the best, and most accessible, version of Bastion.
I'll pray that the devs behind JOURNEY & CASTLE CRUSHERS decide to put their games on the ios PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE :) :) I would be 1 happy gamer
1 Like Bastion was one of the biggest surprises I'v had when playing game. I did not think it was gonna be so brilliant as it was when I first started playing. I'v played games since the first nes and this is easily one of the my favorite games I have ever played. I very rarely find a game I can like as much as I did with this.
They earned this, and I'm eagerly awaiting their next game. Congratulations to Supergiant Games.
1 Like @XboxGuy1537 Honestly it's about a 6/10 as far as general games go. But if you consider it's just a $15 indie game, it turns into an 8/10. So all in all it's actually a great game for it cost. Comedy of the story makes you enjoy the game, but the story is rather bland. If you like Shining Force or Ys games I'd def. recommend trying this.

Bastion was great wasn't it. I mean the actual gameplay was pretty standard-fare, but the narration and unique art design really brought it to life. Well worth checking out for all those that are curious.
Oh and nice to see some recognition for Tales of Vesperia too. Best JRPG on the 360 by a long shot. Although the competition hasn't exactly been high this gen. Shame Ni No Kuni was a PS3 exclusive.

1 Like @Shingetsu IDK about by a long shot. Lost Odyssey wasn't bad, Nor was Infinite Undiscovery. Star Ocean 4 was great. Also The Last Remnant was an extremely well developed game. It just lacks on the port from PS3 issues. Play it on PC, but if you can't. Def. worth trying on 360.

Sure they were some great games, (though I thought Star Ocean was terrible) but for me TOV topped them, in terms of characters, humour, story etc. It's still no FF7, and the battle system got very old very fast, but it was as good as it got for me on the 360. Mainly for the interesting characters and their humorous dialogue. I mean having Raven perv on the ladies in the sauna, what more could you want :)
In any case here's hoping the next gen ups it's game in this dying genre. Sick of FPSs dominating all the sales. Have you seen the teaser trailer for (possible) FF15? Looks remarkable! Though knowing Sqeenix they'll probs scrap it and decide to make FF13-4 instead.
It's a good game, but I bet most of those 1.7 million copies were adquired with Humble Bundle V.
