Baldur's Gate: Reloaded mod for Neverwinter Nights 2 out now

Recreation of first Baldur's Gate CRPG that requires Neverwinter Nights 2 has been in development since 2006.

A 3D recreation of 1998's PC RPG Baldur's Gate is out right now under the name Baldur's Gate: Reloaded.

Players are required to have a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansions, Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir, to play the mod. Gamers can play the game either in a third person perspective or a top down view. The recreation features both the original first game and its expansion, Tales of the Sword Coast.

It is available as a free download and is no way affiliated with BioWare. Details on patch notes and installation instructions can be found on the mod's Nexus page.

Baldur's Gate: Reloaded has been in development since November 2006 by game designer Drew Rechner and a small team of developers called Baldur's Gate: Reloaded Team.

Lol, a mod that consists of six parts and in total takes up about 3 GB. Wow, that's massive! Now do Baldur's Gate 2 plus expansion or why doesn't someone remake TES: Daggerfall in the Skyrim engine :P.

YAY! Now we can play BG1 in one of the most clumsiest gaming engine >__>

I admire the hard work and time spent on this and I hope they got the attention they deserved but I'm not even touching this thing with a ten foot pole...

My question now would be: "Is it better to play Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition or this?"

You know what I like about the classical BG? They leave the character appearances to your imagination, and their faces are immortalized by the portraits. The NWN2 engine doesn't do facial features that well because it's an old engine, and the characters like Elminster, Drizzt and such probably look worser on that engine that you would have liked them to look.

Much faith in humanity is restored!
Anyone else think the team behind this should Kickstarter a sequal using the Oblivion or Skyrim engines? I'd totally sell whatever I have to in order to make donations

That is insane.

Bravo to these fine people. This calls for a lot of alcohol and a lot of rpg. And probably a lot of death....in that order.

Downloading it as I'm typing :) more classic games should be remade this way. Last year someone remade Icewind Dale on Neverwinter Nights 2 as well, it's also on the Nexus.

Get it fast, before Bioware gets it down for some stupid copyright claims

There was also a Baldur's Gate 2 remake attempt using the Dragon Age Origins tool set, too bad it died a long time ago.

@MAD_AI Yup, I am still looking forward to playing a BG2 remake/refresh. I hope guys at Overhaul Games will deliver it at some point. Or perhaps a talented modding team will come up with something like this.

Impressive!  That's no small feat, BG 1 is a huge game, and to have to recreate it using NWN2's tools is not easy.  It'd be interesting to see how the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition compares to this mod.

Honestly, I find NWN2's graphics to be stellar, even to this day.  My guess is that the NWN 2 mod version'll probably look much more graphically impressive.  Although in the end I suppose it would depend on your own personal preferences.  The Infinity Engine still looks good today, imho.

Wow, great! I think I might try it, but I'll have to finish both games first! I never seem to find the time to do it...
