Vivendi Universal Games and Interplay have today announced that they will release a sequel to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the PS2 and Xbox before the end of this year. Set in the Forgotten Realms world--the most popular Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting--Dark Alliance II will employ the 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons rule set.

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II will improve upon the original game in a number of ways. Players will choose one of five new customizable characters and do battle with all kinds of different monsters as they progress through the game's varied environments, completing missions and searching for hidden areas. Players will also be able to make their own magical artifacts in Dark Alliance II, using the game's new item creation system.

No further information on Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II is available at this time, but we'll bring you more on the game as soon as it becomes available.
