Bad Company series not in active development

Developer DICE says "we love" the franchise, but Battlefield 4 is developer's main focus in 2013.

The Battlefield: Bad Company series is not in active development, developer DICE has revealed on Twitter (via Eurogamer).

"We love the Bad Company series, but don't have it in active development," the studio said. "Battlefield 4 is our main focus for the year."

The most recent entry in the spinoff series was 2010's Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which has sold nearly 6 million units to date.

A Bad Company 3 was spotted on an employee resume more than a year ago.

DICE may not be developing a new Bad Company game, but publisher Electronic Arts has reportedly teamed with Fox for an hour-long action-comedy based on the popular Battlefield spinoff series.

Dev: "We love the Bad Company series, but it's not like Call Of Duty"

Me: Isn't that a GREAT thing

Dev: Is it really?.......Is it?

Me:........................YES!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care if they don't make another Bad Company, as long as they start making Bad Company-quality multiplayer maps for Battlefield 4. BC2 had the best maps design in the series. The worst maps in BC2 are at least as good as any BF3 map.

@anvilone not just maps , but make the guns actually feel like guns again and not BB guns , i swear the moment in BF3 i saw a guy take 3 bolt action shots to the head and live long enough to gun me down with an assault rifle , the very moment i was done with BF3 , if they set it back to how BC2 i couldb e convinced to get BF4. XD

Edit: unless this person is Master Chief , he should NOT be taking that many shots to the head and still be alive.

Playing from Alpha to end product is very sad. The moment they went nerf happy with BF3, I went back to BC2 as well as MOH:W.

EA's problem with Bad Company is that there is TOO MUCH TALKING and not enough MINDLESS KILLING

Bad company is the reason why I even played Battlefield 3 and maybe 4.  It is very unfortunate that the superior version of the Battlefield series is thrown into the backburner while Battlefield 4 is hyped up.  Whereas Bad Company 1 and 2 had a decent single player setup, characters who I laughed at, and was actually fun, BF3 was lacking.  It is so odd as to why they would kill the spinoff series when it was so much more enjoyable.  I have a feeling that Battlefield 4's single player will once again be typical modern warfare cliche.

I look forward to Battlefield 4 while I patiently wait for Bad Company 3

Funny cause BC2 made me fall in love with the series more than anything. The singleplayer was actually pretty cool and the multiplayer was equally engaging.

@Gamer_4_Fun Agreed, loved BC's campaign and the multiplayer was the first online game I'd ever completely fallen for.

@Gamer_4_Fun Personally I enjoyed Bad Company 1's campaign a lot more than BC2. BC1's story was better with the whole finding Gold thing and the dialogue was funnier & the levels/missions etc.

Shame, both Bad Company games were much better than Battlefield 3.

battlefield is a pc game, bad company is a console game.  why not just keep each separated for each and not piss off the other fans?  oh, it'd make too much sense.

Because what would be the point? There isn't any.

Bad Company will hopefully retain its slapstick comedy and parody of modern shooters while the regular battlefield will retain a sort of urgency and seriousness of actual warfare.

AND HOPEFULLY WILL AVOID OVER THE TOP BULL LIKE CALL OF DUTY.

Not every story needs a god damn nuke stolen by russian terrorists who are really from England or whatever.

it's kinda sad to hear this because Bad Company is amazingly good. Bad Company 2 is far more entertaining than Battlefield 3.

Seeing how Battlefield 3 is I don't think I want to see what Bad Company 3 would be like. Bad Company 2 was the best FPS I've played to date. Me and my friends had way more fun in it and it seemed more balanced, in my opinion, and the maps were good.

Battlefield 3 is alright, but its far from what Bad Company 2 was like and still is. In Bad Company 2 tanks felt like 60 ton war machines, It didn't drift around the battlefield like in Battlefield 3. Medics had LMGs, defibrillators had a cooldown, we had theM136 AT4 and last but not least, the M1 Grand and Thompson.

I'm pretty sure BFBC2 was the last EA game that I have bought on pc. It was a great game. Unfortunately I probably wouldn't have bought Bad Company 3 anyway because it would have been only on Origin.

DICE and EA: this is such a disappointment!!! Such a let down today. Bad Company 2 was one of, if not the best games to come out of the Battlefield series and now this news? How can you let so many fans down like that!? Seriously? BC3 is one game (if it existed) that could have the potential to take the gaming crown from COD (if not be a major contender) if only they just listened to the fans. Really bummed about this DICE.

It would have been WAYYYYYY better for them to have mad BF: BC3 instead of BF4. I think BC3 would have a much better way to bring BF into the new generation. BC was a hella fun game that was a blast to play. Even the single player was decent. Haggard IMO would kick Master Cheif's A$$.

It's not surprising that BC3 is not in "active development." DICE sounds pretty busy right now from everything else we've heard lately. BF4 is still on the way, with probably about as many expansions as BF3/2/1942, Mirror's Edge 2 has been hinted, and so has Battlefront 3 (or whatever they opened the Los Angeles office for). The last time I checked, people have been crying for additions to the latter two franchises for FAR longer than Bad Company 3.

@anvilone Which would you say (if you can, I dont know if you're allowed?) is the better game, in a watered down, simplified comparison of BC2 and BF3?

Obviously BF3 has been a resounding success for DICE, though I'd still say I prefer BC2, personally I feel BF4 so soon is  a bit un necessary.  Another Bad Company could have been a good way to showcase new tech in a similar platform without being accused of ripping off fans with another BF title.

I enjoyed BC2 a lot more than BF3.  BC2  was built for the consoles.  BF3 on the other had glitches, big maps with too few players, decreased map destruction.  I'm sure I would like it more if would played it on a PC.

WTF really? I'm beginning to think every good FPS franchise is dead, I bought BF3 thinking it would tide me over until the next installment, I guess not. Makes me not want to get BF4 since I won't ever get another Bad Company, it just seems too soon for a new installment in the series of BF and was perfect timing for Bad Company to come back... EA what the hell are you guys doing? Your company needs a hostile takeover by gamers so you quit fucking with the gaming industry! Bring me BC3 and screw BF4!

At this point, a good Bad Company game is the only EA game I would even consider buying. Used, of course. And it better not have any microstransactions or shit like that in it.

I LOVE Bad Company. Loved the single player, and multiplayer. I have both games for my 360 and PC (BC2). I hope they would have developed it instead of BF4. Oh well...

This is a mistake on the part of EA/DICE.  The BAD COMPANY franchise has much more personality than the BATTLEFIELD franchise and IMHO BAD COMPANY 2 (including VIETNAM expansion dlc) is the best game DICE has released.  BF3 looked great but actually had a less fun MP than BFBC2.  BF4 looks like more of the same.

bdixon76
bdixon76

@epicgameresearc It has to be more of the same since they are releasing it so soon after BF3.

It's the COD model

anvilone
anvilone moderator moderatorstaff

@bdixon76  @epicgameresearc  CoD is released each year, not every other year. Besides, Battlefield has had regular releases since it began. Given that Battlefield came first, you could argue that CoD is following the BF model.

2002 - Battlefield 1942

2004 - Battlefield Vietnam

2005 - Battlefield 2

2006 - Battlefield 2142

2008 - Bad Company

2009 - Heroes/1943

2010 - Bad Company 2

2011 - BF3

2013 - BF4

They actually should be thinking outside of the bun and trying to re-introduce a modern version of BF 2142. THAT I would actually get excited about.

They are starting to go down the same path that NBA Live did when they started getting outdone by NBA 2K and we see how well that turned out...
