AU Shippin' Out October 12-16: Uncharted 2
Search for treasure and save the world with rock music in this week's Aussie releases.
Sony has taken the pole position this week with the critically acclaimed Uncharted 2: Among Thieves headlining game releases down under. Trading the steamy jungle for the freezing weather of Nepal, Nathan Drake returns to answer another one of history's unanswered questions: What happened to Marco Polo's fleet crew (and, more importantly, their treasure) during their journey home from China in 1292? Single-player aside, developer Naughty Dog has added in a comprehensive multiplayer mode featuring four different competitive game types for up to 10 players and an all-new co-op mode for up to three players. It seems like each of the major retailers has its own preorder incentives, but sadly, the Fortune Hunter Edition won't be coming to Australia, so shop around for whichever offer tickles your fancy the most. Keep your eyes peeled for this gaming gem when it comes out in Australia on Thursday.
Next up we've got Brutal Legend, from legendary game designer Tim Schafer of Monkey Island and Psychonauts fame. You play as the world's best roadie, Eddie Riggs, who gets sent to another dimension after a rock monster spawns and destroys the concert he was working at. Unfortunately for Riggs, the alternate world that he lands in isn't very peaceful, with humans fighting for survival against their demon rulers. Add in a love story, more than 100 heavy metal tracks, and multiplayer, and you've got a good-sounding recipe. But how does it pan out? Stay tuned to GameSpot for our review later this week, or check it out when the game lands on store shelves on Rocktober 15.
While it isn't as anticipated as Uncharted 2 or Brutal Legend, Wii Fit Plus, the sequel to 2008's best-selling game, is about to land on our shores. Building upon the foundations of Wii Fit, this latest iteration adds in 21 new exercises and the ability to chain exercises together, a feature that the original was criticised for missing. One quirky, but not very relevant, aspect of the game is the ability to weigh your pudgy pooch or fat feline. When Wii Fit Plus comes out later this week, it will be available for A$159.95 for a copy of the game and the Wii Balance Board, or just A$29.95 for the software.
Stay tuned to AU Shippin' Out for Australia's most accurate releases, because the following weeks are going to be jam-packed with titles like Borderlands, Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, Fallout 3: GOTY, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010, and more.
