AU Shippin' Out November 23-27: Lego Rock Band
Movie tie-in games dominate Aussie releases, while Activision and Warner Bros. face off in the music genre arena.
This week sees a glut of licensed movie titles hitting stores around Australia. Both Planet 51 and Where the Wild Things Are are based on the upcoming films from Sony Pictures and Warner Bros., respectively. Developed by Pyro Studios, Planet 51 is an objective-focused driving game, while WTWTA comes from the Washington-based Griptonite Games and puts you in the shoes of the story's protagonist, Max, as he explores the magical island he sailed to. Other licensed games to come out this week include Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues and Ben 10: Alien Force Vilgax Attacks. Check out the list below for exact release dates for each of the mentioned titles.
It's also a battle of the rhythm games this week, with Lego Rock Band and Band Hero going head-to-head when they go on sale this Wednesday. Simply put, both titles have kept their gameplay and peripheral roots from Guitar Hero and Rock Band and ditched the rock-music-only track list in favour of songs that are more akin to those you'd find in the top 20 music charts. Band Hero introduces a new drum kit that is similar to the one from Guitar Hero World Tour but with some tweaks and is compatible with other Guitar Hero games. Meanwhile, Lego Rock Band adds in a new Rock Challenge mode, which has players attempt to earn a certain score in order to complete an objective, like fight off a giant octopus.
