AU Shippin' Out January 4-8: Bayonetta

Sega and THQ go head-to-head during the first week of the new year.

The new year is off to a big start, with the first week of the new decade seeing two of the year's biggest releases: Bayonetta and Darksiders. Bayonetta is the latest game from Platinum Games, which is staffed by an impressive team of renowned Japanese developers. Players can be assured of plenty of sexual innuendo to go alongside the violence, as Bayonetta, a sassy witch who awakens after a 500-year slumber, finds herself in a fictional European city with no memory of who she is or how she got there. Bayonetta is slated for release on January 7, and on top of the regular release, it will be accompanied by the cheekily named Climax Edition, which comes with a replica pistol from the game and an art book.

THQ's Darksiders, on the other hand, is a bit bleaker and is set on Earth 100 years after the Apocalypse where the protagonist War, one of the Four Horsemen of said Apocalypse, sets off to find out why the destruction was brought forward. While the game was developed by Vigil Games, popular comic book artist Joe Madureira is responsible for the beautifully grotesque art direction. Keep an eye out for Darksiders when it is released this Thursday.

    Street date was broken on Bayonetta. It went on sale today (05/01/10). Dunno who broke it, though.

    2 great looking games to start the year, really not sure which one to pick up first. Bayonetta is looking slightly more likely at this point in time....

    I watched some trailers of Darksiders and it looks really cool. I think I will get that one too along with Bayonetta.

    i'll wait a bit for Bayonetta, as i hear the PS3 port is sub-par compared to the xbox version. Darksiders looks good though!

    Got Bayonetta pre-ordered, one of my friends is getting Darksiders so i'll try it when he gets it to see if I like it or not, it does look pretty good from what i've seen however.

    Both games are to be commended in their concept and design. I will be getting both, but "Darksiders" first. The art design of this game is really detailed and glossy, the age old plot/story of betrayel and deception a classic. And with fluid and percise kill mechanics and crisp tactical movement, WAR will deliver the only way he knows best with HAVIC, FIRE and KAOS.

    I'll get Bayonetta when it hits the bargain bin, and I know nothing of this ... Darksiders. Bayonetta's action is slick, to be sure, and I had hoped the same of Dante's Inferno, however the story is typical of Japan, in that I'm left going WTF. I kid, it's not THAT bad, but I couldn't get into the demo at all.

    im gonna wait for a few reviews and check out whatever videos are available wednesday morning as i can't decide which to buy and i can only afford 1. i know what it wont be the biggest loser

    Tried the Bayonetta demo... It was awesome! Would get it if I had any of the latest gen consoles.

    I wont lie, Bayonetta`s gameplay looks like a blast, reminds me of a female version of Dante. Too bad its not coming out for the PC, oh well, might get it down the road for my 360 if i have some money left.
