AU Shippin' Out: Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings

By James Kozanecki

Break out your hat and whip for this week's treasure hunt.

Kicking off this week’s lineup of releases in Australia is Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings. The game is set in the late 1930s, and Indy travels the world with his trademark hat and whip in search of the Staff of Moses. As you'd expect, there are plenty of moments in the game that pay homage to Indy's heritage, including running away from boulders, using your whip to swing around obstacles, and many more. LucasArts has decided to skip the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for this one, so Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings will be coming only to the Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable when it hits stores this Wednesday.

The Wii in itself is a pretty innovative console, but Prope's Let's Tap is pushing the Wii Remote beyond its usual waggle controls. To play the game you'll need a remote and a box to set it atop. When you tap the box, the accelerometer in the remote detects your hits and interacts with the game. There are five different minigames for you to tap along with, ranging from a running game to playing a virtual game of Jenga. Unlike other territories, Australia won’t be seeing a bonus box release alongside the game, so it looks like it's BYO box for Let’s Tap when it comes out here on the 17th.

While releases this week are a bit thin, late June is set to close with a bang. The likes of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, Rugby, and AFL Challenge are all slated for release over the next two weeks, so stay tuned to GameSpot.

Uh... Only on 2nd Generation systems? Wha....?

Gameplay seems good! It's always annoying to watch 30 seconds of commercials before getting to see 1:00 of actual video, though.
