AU Shippin' Out February 18-February 22: Unreal Tournament 3

By James Kozanecki

M-m-m-m-monster kill!

Almost three months since its initial release in North America, Sony's popular timed exclusive, Unreal Tournament 3 for the PlayStation 3, is making its way down under. Unlike the current trend toward simulation shooters, such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Unreal Tournament 3 delivers high-speed, ultraviolent action that the franchise has become famous for. Players can choose from a variety of modes, including deathmatch, team deathmatch, 1v1, capture the flag with and without vehicles, and warfare. All of these modes can be played offline with bots, but it’s the 16-player online combat where the game really shines. One feature that is new to console owners, but familiar to PC players, is the ability to create and install mods. For those unfamiliar with the concept of modding, user-created mods allow you to alter the game, so you can create new skins, weapons, and levels. By using a separate conversion tool, gamers can then convert mods that are designed for the PC to work on the PlayStation 3. Unreal Tournament 3 comes out around Australia this Thursday.

Wii owners will be pleased to hear that Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure is coming out this week. Zack and Wiki are the newest members in the "Sea Rabbids" gang and aspire to be the greatest pirates to set sail. While out exploring the ocean, they are attacked and end up stranded on an island. Zack quickly discovers hidden treasure, which turns out to be the golden skull belonging to the legendary pirate Barbaros. Barbaros offers to give Zack one wish providing that he finds the missing pieces of the pirate's body and puts him back together. The game takes players back to the origins of adventure gaming by using a point-and-click system reminiscent of old PC adventure games and updated to use the Wii Remote controller. Gamers looking for a good adventure game on the Wii should not overlook Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure, which comes out on February 21.

This week's new releases are listed below (list taken from retailer and publisher information--actual dates may vary).

Wow, is the inability to properly read a relatively short article rampant in the U S and A? Just going by the amount of mis-directed posts below.

@ iuns Did you even READ the damn article? It's talking about the Australian release of UT3 for the PS3. It's like fanboy related comments are just braindead nowadays...

jivemaster,if it upsets you so much about it only just coming out now,why didnt you import it?i live in the uk and its coming out here later than in australia, and i imported it 6 weeks ago.its your own fault

Good news.... for those who hadn't already imported the game ;) (no doubt at a cheaper price than the RRP of most games sold here in Aus).

Even worse is that most publishers don't publicly announce release dates for Australia, instead quietly telling retailers and letting them handle it.

Unreal tournament 3 baby! waiting for so long. To bad the 360 has to wait longer ;)

3 months later - that is inexcusable. A month later I could take, as I can see additional production of discs for the region and transportation taking that long. But not 3 months. This is ridiculous. There is no localisation needed. Its all the same hardware. Its just lingo used as an excuse. Give Australians an incentive to buy games. At least give them *close* to the same treatment as other countries. I am not asking for the same treatment, because that would be ridiculous, as we are a far smaller consumer base. But we are a consumer base nonetheless. Currently we wait several months after initial release for the exact same thing, and after generous currency conversion, we still pay 33% more for the same thing. That is criminal. Our prices should be in line with those in Canada. And you wonder why game sales per person in Aus is not on par with other countries... Anywho, those who wanted this imported it from Play-asia months ago when the game was "actually" a new release.
