AU Shippin' Out August 25-August 29: Too Human

By James Kozanecki

After almost 10 years in development, Too Human arrives down under.

A few years ago it would've been fair to put Too Human in the same abandonware basket as Duke Nukem Forever, but now it's finally on the verge of release down under. Set in a pseudo-Nordic future, you step into the role of Baldur, the son of Odin, who's involved in an ongoing conflict with the machine world. The game can be played alone in single-player or with another person in co-op via Xbox Live. Too Human comes out this Thursday on the Xbox 360.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion may have come out in the US in November 2006, but it's taken almost two years to make its way to Australia. The game follows Dr Derek Stiles in surgery as he starts off as a rookie surgeon, at which point he discovers that he has a special ability to heal people. By using the Wii Remote, you can perform lifesaving procedures on your patients with cool instruments such as a defibrillator and yell out "Clear" as you play. Trauma Center: Second Opinion is being distributed by Nintendo Australia and is due out on the 28th.

I know this is a little late in the game but I had to put my 2 cents in about Too Human. Too Human in it's own right is a great game, very addicting. Absolutely worth the twenty bucks it will cost you these days. The thing that lead to its' down fall is the treasure hunt weapon distribution. The awkward controls get better after some ten hours in the game they become natural. I loved Too Human and hated the weapon distribution. Ironically the newer game Borderlands made the mistake of also using the treasure hunt distribution system which is crap and will lead to that games failure also. The thing both of these games have in common is that the story line, the art, the weapons, the characters, the fighting are all above average, maybe not top of the line but really good in there own right. The other thing is that these games will both be picked on by critics for some of the same reasons. The biggest failure of both of these games is that they both have huge potential, but the weapon distribution and some glitches have doomed them into the second hand basket. Personally I still keep my copy of Too Human, I still love it, I traded Borderlands back into the store today actually. If there were to be a second Too Human I'd reserve a copy or gladly purchase any dlc. The online multiplayer for Too Human still draws a descent enough following that you can play just about anytime with any character at any level.

I was lucky enough to find out about Too Human early enough to not buy it. The demo was at best very colorful, but nothing really new. Hack and Slash with kilt. Sad because it joins the long line of games the makers themselves apparently kick down with aggravating programming blitches long before the low user reviews show up to drop a lid on them.
