Assassin's Creed III sells 7 million

Stealth-action game notches new sales milestone, becoming Ubisoft's fastest-selling game ever.

Assassin's Creed III has sold 7 million units since launch, becoming Ubisoft's fastest-selling game in history, the company announced today. The stealth-action game launched October 30 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and sold 3.5 million units during its first week.

Assassin's Creed III released on Wii U November 18 and came to PC November 20.

In addition to announcing new worldwide sales figures for Assassin's Creed III, Ubisoft also broke down in-game statistics. In single-player missions alone, players have tallied more than 82 centuries of game time, performing in excess of 3 billion assassinations along the way.

Multiplayer for Assassin's Creed III was also a bright spot. Ubisoft said Assassin's Creed III attracted more than double the number of players compared to Assassin's Creed: Revelations. In addition, players have performed over 250 million assassinations in more than 5 billion multiplayer sessions since launch.

Easily the worst AC to date. Please UBI, return to assassin's roots not this latest piece of garbage. Here's some advice for you, avoid so many damn cutscenes. At one point I thought I was playing The Walking Dead! Quite honestly a joke of a game. Take your time and make a coherent story. And forget about multiplayer, it's just diverting attention from the true focus....the plot.

This is why tacking on a multiplayer mode or online aspect hoping to prevent resale, or making extra money through dlc---

Rushes the final product and gives us lean, weak, unsatisfying endings.

Agree with many 3 hours of intro - rushed ending to make sure some kind of online aspect is there.  Weakens the game.

@jenovaschilld 100%  wrong, Multi-player was made by a separate team, this game was worked on for 3 years so I doubt the story was rushed, The ending wasn't really an ending, It was basically sayin' that there is more on the adventures of Connor. Not every ending has to be dramatic.

I just finished AC3, and they did a Mass Effect 3 on it.  I will NOT be buying any more AC games.  Ubisoft, you just lost my money, you idiots.  I want my money back, you a**holes.  I was looking forward to the Civil War next, and you killed the series deader than a vampire on the surface of the sun.  You will NOT get any more of my money for that piece of s**t  series.  How could you do that to such a great story?  HOW?!?!?  Bunch of morons.

I've no doubt about the AC series sales but I really wanted Far Cry 3 to be sold out in high numbers (which eventually make Ubisoft for Far Cry 4 or FC3 sequel).

I am proud to say I'm one of the 7 million. I personally love AC3 very much, and while I'm more of an "urban child", I love the forest area and the hunting mechanics. I've always wanted a well-made hunting game, and here it is. So much for those Cabala Big Hunt games. This is all you ever need.

@AlexFili There's something oddly satisfying about running through the trees before leaping ten metres to the ground to impale your unsuspecting prey--probably a rabbit.

So does heavy marketing helps in the sales of AC3? Seems like it is working. Wonder what is the customer acquisition cost like. @gametradersf

@gametradersf  @gametradersf I didn't see a gigantic amount of marketting in the UK compared to previous games, but then there were a TON of games coming out at the same time. Obviously didn't hurt sales!

UltraredM
UltraredM

@AlexFili  @gametradersf  @gametradersf There was absolute shit tons of marketing in the USA. Lots of mainstream TV channels were airing AC3 commercials. Ubisoft spent by far the most they ever have on marketing for this game--probably millions. They'd be out BIG time if they didn't make millions off of this game.

AC3 has the best characters, settings and actual content to date. Too bad its console versions were really, really bugged and barely ran at 25-30 FPS. On PC though, I'm totally rediscovering the game as it was meant to be experienced.

rileypoole1234
rileypoole1234

@Fandango_Letho Same here. The PC version is light years ahead of the console version just by the fact that it runs smoothly.

jenovaschilld
jenovaschilld

@rileypoole1234  @Fandango_Letho It is, one of the developers couple of years ago were already developing this game for next gen, like Skyrim. They were really hoping this would be a system launch title - no competition- setting their game at the beginning base.

Still though fine game. Made me a little motion sick in parts - sure did not keep me from playing.

AC3 was mediocre at best. AC series has always been a day one purchase for me, but after AC3 I will be picking up future titles in the bargain bin, if at all.

Well, I guess that means we will continue seeing AC games on an annual basis... yay. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed 1 and 2 and do plan on buying 3... someday. But I personally find that knowing a game exists before it has even been announced makes this industry a little bit predictable and dull.

I think that is why Nintendo is getting a lot of stick at the moment. They were always known for being unpredictable with their game ideas but in the last few years, not so much. They are still bloody good fun and I love NSMBU. They are just not as... original, as they used to be. But the same goes for pretty much all but indie developers these days.

I still don't understand how  players have performed 250 million assassinations in 5 billion sessions.  This means 1 assasination in every 20 multiplayer session.

Bring back the stealth aspects. Bring back low profile double assassinations. Taking out a fort stealthily is practically impossible without being spotted at least once or twice.

@CRAPCOM1926 You think AC1 is better than Revelations or ACIII? You must be mega high, because that game was passable, compared to the rest of the series.

@CRAPCOM1926 I have to strongly disagree with you bro. AC2 is not better than AC3. Maybe in story, which is entirely subjective but as far as gameplay improvements, variety, and ambition, AC3 beats AC2 by a landslide. The combat feels even more brutal, hard-hitting, and intense than ever. Mapping the ability to counter and to perform all of your defensive maneuvers is ingenious. Plus the game has excellent naval combat that outshines and topples any pirate or action game on the sea that has ever came out. It feels like that can be its own game. And let me not forget to mention the homestead which offers a plethora of content and things to do. Walking around, exploring, and observing that area alone feels like going through a real life simulation of people actually living their lives within the world. I went back to play AC2 and honestly the only mesmerizing aspect about the game is being inside renaissance Italy and going through the story again. Other than AC3 is certainly the pinnacle of the franchise, without question.

@dabomb790  @CRAPCOM1926 No, AC2 is far better than three, even by now. Although I disagree with crapcom on one thing. To me it goes: Assassin's Creed 2 & Brotherhood equally < Assassin's Creed: Revelations < Assassin's Creed < Assassin's Creed 3. Also, crapcom, you did the 'less than/greater than' sign wrong. You put it as if AC3 was the best, which I don't believe was your intention.

@IllegallyAwesum  @dabomb790  @CRAPCOM1926 Math was never my strongest, so yes, I was incorrect. I just forgot what I had learned on that. Furthermore, your comment is condescending; not only to me, but to America.

@NTM23  @dabomb790  @CRAPCOM1926 I'm sorry, but...was that last bit sarcasm or something? You, sir, managed the comparison signs incorrectly. Just think of it like a mouth, chasing the bigger food. Or, you could look at the corner as a representation of a smaller value and the expanse as representing expanse in value. Please, do manage your mathematics before correcting other people.

@NTM23  Actually, you did the less/greater sign wrong. AC2 > AC3 means AC2 is better. Which is quite funny since you even took the time to correct on something he was right in the first place :)

NTM23

@dabomb790  @CRAPCOM1926 Gameplay wise though, I should say that I do think Brotherhood, and then onto Revelations is better, but other than that, I still think two and Brotherhood are equal when all is counted. Three took a backseat to it all, except for the part where you run, the running is better in three 'cause you can't accidentally run off a tall place.

Excellent game, enjoying taking my time exploring the world, and after I'm done with ACIII I can move on to Far Cry 3. Cheers Ubisoft :)
