Assassin's Creed III: Liberation coming to Vita

First female protagonist debuting in Assassin's Creed III tie-in as Game Informer subscribers divulge details for handheld installment in Ubisoft stealth action franchise.
The first Assassin's Creed game for the PlayStation Vita will also be the first to feature a female assassin in the lead role. As detailed by Game Informer subscribers on NeoGAF, the newest issue of the magazine details Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, set for release alongside Assassin's Creed III this October.
Set around the mid- to late-18th century, Liberation stars Aveline, a mixed heritage assassin whose travels will take her from New Orleans to Mexico. Developed by Ubisoft Sofia (Prince of Persia Trilogy HD), the game will reportedly feature "true Assassin's Creed gameplay," with a focus on large gameplay areas free of loading screens.
The reveal of a female Assassin's Creed lead, especially one set around the same Revolutionary War time period as Assassin's Creed III, is surprising given >recent comments from that game's creative director Alex Hutchinson. In March, Hutchinson addressed calls for a female lead, saying, "It's always up in the air. I think lots of people want it, [but] in this period it's been a bit of a pain. The history of the American Revolution is the history of men… It felt like, if you had all these men in every scene and you're secretly, stealthily in crowds of dudes [as a female assassin], it starts to feel kind of wrong. People would stop believing it."
Expect more details on Assassin's Creed: Liberation to be revealed during GameSpot's live stream of Ubisoft's E3 media briefing Monday at 3 p.m. PST.

Also carnt wait for this game. Looks amazing. Other games to look out for are obviously Call of Duty vita, Final Fantasy X (YES ITS COMING TO VITA!!!!) and MGS HD. Also if you have not played it check out the gravity rush demo on the PS store. It does a fantastic job of showing how the gameplay works. Really excited for that one. As for AC3 liberation, be intresting to see more screens, the vita can handle powerful games so im hoping the actual in-game world is a fair size similar to the first AC. I think hoping for a world the size of AC2 would be hoping too much :)
I think the vita is a fantastic handheld and ive had it from release day and never regretted it. The only people who hate the Vita are the ones who carnt afford it. sorry but its true. trying buying one before you rip it off.

1 Like This is awesome news! I'm dying for new vita games, and this just shot up to my most anticipated title. And a female protaganist, awesome. I was so worried that the vita AC3 would be a port.
1 Like It's kind of disappointing that this is only for the Vita, but I guess it will encourage fans to buy one. There's still time to have a female lead or important female main character in a pc/console Assassin's creed game. The story doesn't look like it's coming to a close any time soon.

This is great news for Vita owners and for those planning on purchasing one. I'm hoping for an open world similar to inFamous 2's New Marais, although set in the 1700s...
Those people who are complaining because of Vita exclusivity, shut it! You have AC3; you have loads of other games. If you want this version, then buy a Vita. Trust me, it's worth it! Games like Wipeout 2048 and Gravity Rush look amazing on this handheld, and this is still only its first year.
For all those people saying 'its going to be rubbish because its on a handheld', you obviously have little or no knowledge of the PS Vita. Please do a little research before denying a game a chance before it's even been officially announced.
1 Like A female assassin ... thats not a bad idea.. They better have a really good story line though.. AC3 storyline seems like one heck of a controversial soup.. It would be weak to have a bleak storyline for the feminine assassin.
A female assassin is awesome, but could we not have her on PS3/XBOX? It's a bit weak, and maybe just milking it a bit.
They FINALLY make a female assassin as the lead, something I have wanted for ages, but it is only on the freakin' worthless Vita? What idiot thought this idea up? People want things like this on the actual PS3, on the big screen with an actual controller, not some garbage handheld staring at a little screen. Seriously, this is a waste of time only being on some Vita/PSP handheld crap. And, frankly, it spits in the face of many AC fans who have wanted a female lead....because they should be playing her on PS3/X360 in HD properly with an actual controller.
@DarthLod This will only be a timed exclusive, Ubisoft isn't foolish enough to make any vita exclusives.
1 Like @gtkyzur I seriously doubt that. They may bring the female character to future AC console games but they won't bring the entire game over as well (unless they are aiming for cross-play).
2 Like Sounds moderately interesting. Please, PLEASE, for the love of God, Ubisoft, don't shoehorn in a bunch of crappy motion/touch control schemes just because the Vita supports it. And if you do, please make an option to play the game with REGULAR, PUSH-THE-BUTTON controls like we've all enjoyed for 30+ years now. Thanks.

As for the notion of disbelief - Free falling in AC2 and having a fight during that, the entire story angle that the series has taken, the Animus itself. Having the choice to play as female in the series would be a lot more believable than the concept of the series.
It's taken them long enough, but why the Vita? Couldn't it have been a release for more than the Vita? Or having gender choice in AC3 itself?
It's good to see them finally allow a female in the series who isn't just the support role or sex interest, but a Vita release only is not a good idea. Those who like the Vita and have one, or intend on buying one will be glad, but those who don't want a Vita and have no intention on buying one will just pass it by.
I won't be buying a Vita, not interested in one at all. So I'll be passing this game up.

lets hope they'll show this off at Sonys conference. PS Vita needs titles like this to sell

And the Wii U is gonna fizzle out before Assassin's Creed is even considered for a Nintendo system.
And if it's anything like Darksiders 2, and the rest of the third party games coming to the Wii U, it will be delayed for at least a year.

1 Like Well, if any handheld can do it, it's the Vita.
I hope they actually TRY and make this game good, unlike most Vita releases which feel slapped together for the sole sake of having a game with your name on it on the new handheld.
I don't have a Vita .. and I'm not planning on buying one ..
still, the idea of a non-sexualized female protagonist in a Video Game is definitely to root for !
hopefully that will be the case in that game ..
