...... i think resident evil 6 should be nominated lots of people say it sucks but when i played it the game well .. it was amazing
The Writers Guild of America has nominated six games in its 2013 writing awards; others nominated include 007 Legends and Disney Epic Mickey 2.
The Writers Guild of America has nominated six video games for its 2013 outstanding achievement in writing awards.
Nominated in the video-game writing category are 007 Legends (Activision); Assassin's Creed III (Ubisoft); Halo 4 (Microsoft Studios); Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (Disney Interactive Studios); Assassin's Creed III: Liberation (Ubisoft); and Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Sony Computer Entertainment America).
This is the sixth year that the video-game writing award has been presented by The Writers Guild of America, honouring the best qualifying script of a video game published in the previous year. The labour union organisation represents writers in motion pictures, television, cable, digital media, and broadcast news.
The winners will be announced at the 2013 Writers Guild Awards on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York.
Halo 4? Your joking right? I played, it and felt nothing to it, Valkyria Chronicles beat the crap out this in terms of plot....... Well, unfair to compared a older game heavily based on role playing RTS to a shooter, well yeah Halo 4 should win cause stories these days belong to Microsoft, and nobody else!
No Max Payne , no Spec Ops: The Line. Is this an award for writing, right? So two of the best video game plots of 2012 are not here. Hard to believe.
Borderlands 2 and Mass Effect 3 should definitely be there. The writing in that game is brilliant.
Fail to see why ACIII is present among the nominees, though. Its a creative story, don't get me wrong, but most of it involves taking real world events and people, then rearranging them and adding your own spin on it to fit your own story. Its imaginative, yes, but not entirely original like say Mass Effect, Borderlands or HALO.
Mass Effect 3 should be there, it had many compelling and emotional moments between well developed characters. I know Halo 4 had average at best, cliched run of the mill action game writing. Sure it was better then a CoD game, but that's a low bar to jump.
The walking dead should be here, big fail. As for the AC3 haters, why don't you guys become video game plot writers if you can do so much better? Or probably you've just watched the videos in youtube and most probably haven't even played its predecessors or even begin to understand the big picture about the AC series. I guess it's not for everyone because it isn't a fast paced popcorn crowd pleaser blockbuster wannabe that every kid loves today. It actually makes you think and leave room for imagination. It's hard for people nowadays appreciate a plot that actually doesn't give out all the clues in your face. It's too hard to use your head and actually think for yourselves.
Those games are interesting selections. I'd like to know what the qualifications were, games needed to meet to have them considered for voting? Some really good games were excluded. I don't think this Writers Guild category takes game writing seriously.
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and 007 Legends. The Writers Guild of America I have lost all repect for you.
@flashn00b You know, I'm usually not for these kinds of opinions, but I honestly have to agree. Are we allowed?
ME3? Yes, the ending ... but come on! And Walking Dead had excellent pacing and tone, characters that grew on you and were taken at perfect times and in perfect ways. The way the whole season rounded out. Get with it and, I don't know, play a video game Writer's Guild.
@Afinati It might have been the endless profanity which turned them off of Walking Dead.... I know it bothered me a bit. The language became much more laughably unrealistic than realistic. And if the world was ending, the last thing I'd think of doing was shouting the f word every 5 seconds. It was still a good game and story, but way way way too much unnecessary language.
Where is The Walking Dead?
Also despite my hatred towards ME3's ending. Why isn't Mass Effect 3 at least nominated?
I liked Halo 4's story a LOT but there are other games that came out this year alone that were better in narrative.
No other explanation other than the writers guild is full of eleven year olds.
Give me a break.
Halo4 muddled its way through a superficial mortality theme with an artificial intelligence gimmick. And that's the good part.
AC3 couldn't even tell a compelling "Luke, I am your father!" , story set in the most iconic revolution in history. And the ending was not written, it was left out.
But eleven year olds eat it up.
im glade to see im not the only one that feels spec ops the line was the SH$% this year. i feel it should had gotten a award for something. such a mind numbing game and just brutal in the way war can be. my favorite line in the is "what cause i saved you, you think that makes me a good man?" if your a cod, battlefield, or rainbow 6 fan you should play spec ops the line
I'm sorry but... what kind of nominations are this?
"The Writers Guild of America has nominated six video games for its 2013 outstanding achievement in writing awards"
Halo 4? Assassin's Creed 3? Are you serious? These guys don't know much about decent video game writing, don't they? It's almost non-existant now, with the exception of The Walking Dead game and a few others.
The only game I played out of that list (and still in progress) is AC3. I am enjoying the storyline and writing overall. There have been some flaws in the writing I noticed, but still an entertaining story nonetheless.
Are they stupid or trolling? no max payne, spec ops, walking dead, ME 3 or far cry3? I'd say that's an infinitely better list right there.
Also I'm assuming mgs HD and ME trilogy doesn't count because they're bundles
@TheSkyrimStatue ME3, Walking Dead, Max Payne and half of Spec Ops The Line, all of those are okay. Far Cry 3 had a bland story with some great characters, some awkward characters and an ending that's abrupt, completely flat and nothing makes sense, unless you're a hippster.
@TheSkyrimStatue Max Payne 3 had one of the best stories I have ever witnessed in a game... actually that entire game was downright amazing.
@TheSkyrimStatue In all fairness, while the game as a whole has received fairly well-deserved praise, the script in Far Cry 3 is possibly its weakest link. I could see the others though, particularly Walking Dead and Mass Effect 3. I *cried* when Mordin told me "someone else might get it wrong."
AC3 had horrific writing that jumped all over the place, and that half assed ending, that alone should make them reconsider their nomination.
Not to mention....What would you have me do?
Achilles: "You've been gone for three months!"
Connor: "Yeah, sorry."
Achilles: "Meh... put these robes on."
Connor is now an assassin. Seriously though, that game was the most anti-climactic videogame ever. Kinda makes me sad to think about :(
