Arkham City's voice of Batman not returning for Arkham Origins

Developer wants to use a younger voice actor, as the game features Batman in his early years.
Longtime Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy will not be reprising his role as the Caped Crusader in the upcoming Batman: Arkham Origins.
South Africa's NAG magazine (via Batman News) reports that developer Warner Bros. Montreal wants "to use a new younger actor because the game features Batman in his early years," whereas Conroy's gravelly tones have always voiced a veteran Dark Knight.
Batman Arkham: Origins tells the story of Batman's early years in the Arkham series. It is the first game in the universe not to be developed by UK developer Rocksteady.
Conroy was the voice of Batman in Arkham Asylum and its sequel Arkham City, MMO DC Universe Online, and the recently released DC brawler Injustice: Gods Among Us.
He was also the voice of Batman for the '90s animated series, and many of the DC Universe animated series that followed.
Mark Hamill, voice of Batman nemesis the Joker, has also said he will not be returning to the role.
Batman Arkham: Origins will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U on October 25.

No Rocksteady=No Buy. I can already see WB screwing up Origins. There track record for games is not good. If Rocksteady wasn't going do Origins than you don't freaking make the game.
This game is a prequel, so I understand that the younger Batman can't have the same voice as the older one. But why not hire Kevin Conroy and then just use some computer software to high pitch the voice a little bit and everyone's happy

2 Like Guys, I understand the skepticism coming from most of you who commented. To me also Kevin Conroy is a legend, but I must recommend you to watch the animated version of Frank Miller's "Batman: Year One". Benjamin McKenzie put up a great performance there and since the developers of the game have already stated that Year One is one of their main inspirations, I believe he is a suitable choice. :)
2 Like I honestly don't care who voices him, it's a game not a movie, so it's all about the gameplay for me. The only thing that has potential to be gamebreaking is the multiplayer...

I guess i can live with Joker's soundanimator changing. But come on! Strip Batman from his gadgets, and it's going to be as lame, as new 007 movies like Skyfall and QoS are. I don't want to see how Batman became the bat. Batman Begins movie allready did that, perfectly. I want some puresteel Arkham gameplay. Not some sissying around.
Batman Begins was far from perfect. It was highly overrated and probably ONE OF the worst Batman movies out there. Not the worst. But not nearly as good as people say it is.

He'll voice Solid Snake, but Solid Snake won't be in the game.
Hayter hasn't always voiced Big Boss though. It makes sense they had someone else do it. They should have done that from the beginning.

2 Like Conroy's natural speaking voice could already pass for a young Batman, and I'm pretty sure a voice actor can handle simply sounding a bit younger...

Conroy HAS done a younger sounding Batman and Bruce Wayne on at least two occasions that I can recall. "Mask of the Phantasm" and a few episodes of TAS Batman. Conroy CAN do a younger Batman.
No Hamil, no Conroy, no Batman. Sorry. But this game already has a very big strike against it.
Conroy IS the voice of Batman. That is it.
This game is a farce. First they ditch the original studio. Then they shove in tacked-on multiplayer. Now they're fucking up the voice actors.
Don't fall for it, people.
They're not reinventing the wheel, ditching proven actors doesn't make it fresh or new.
It's my guess that the budget on this game is so low that it won't even see a good polish.
How much money was spent on marketing/advertising for Arkham City? Was even a 1/3 of that necessary?
Anyone that pays full price for this title is getting robbed.
The funds are most likely being diverted to MP. A part of the game that nobody asked for, and nobody wants.

13 Like Kevin Conroy had not "always voiced a veteran Dark Knight". In Mask of The Phantasm, they explained the origins of Batman The Animated Series, with Kevin Conroy performing wonderfully as Bruce Wayne before batman, an inexperienced Batman, AND a verteran Batman, and it was amazing. They should bring him back.

1 Like @CieloPerso @Pol1amorou5 can you blame WB games? They aren't that great. They are starting to take the same route as Activision, Ubisoft, and EA. All getting cheap and worthless. I had high hopes for this game but I agree, they should have not titled it with Arkham. This game will be the worst of the trilogy if there is no Conroy as Batman and no Mark Hamill as Joker. Especially no development by Rocksteady already screams out death to this great series. Not sure if this will be worth the money. Still pissed Joker is "dead" and Harley's Revenge was the worst DLC ever created for a Batman game, it told us absolutely nothing new, just more guesses.

6 Like @Pol1amorou5 Exactly. Anyone who's followed his performances knows this. Even an older voice actor can sound younger if it's within their range. It's definitely in Kevin Conroy's range.
8 Like Why no Kevin Conroy? He's the voice of Batman most fans can relate too and besides Kevin is a talented guy, he could make his voice sound younger. He does it with Bruce Wayne for goodness sake!
Because there are more Batman/Joker fans out there than there are Conroy/Hamill fans. And always will be.
Seeing as how Conroy voices Batman all the time he must be glad to get a break for once. And also I would like to see how this works out.
@theonesofgames it could be good, then again it could be an epic failure. More like a decent shot at trying to come up with some originality. But my expectations for this game just fell very low.
Fine for me. Anyway in the french version, i'm pretty sure they will put the same voice acting, lol
2 Like Good. With respect to Conroy, I'm honestly tired of hearing him every time Batman needs a voice. I'm sure there are plenty of unheard of voice actors that are extremely talented, but they won't ever get noticed if we keep hiring Troy Baker, Nolan North, Steve Blum, etc. I'm sick of it. Stop complaining. Bruce Greenwood from Under the Red Hood and Young Justice does a great job as Batman. Its getting more and more difficult for me to enjoy games because I'm painfully aware of recycled voice actors. Yes, Conroy and Hamil are legends. I'm not refuting that, but enough is enough.

"does a great job" does NOT = "does THE BEST job" so please stop speaking out of your ass. Eventually Kevin Conroy will retire & he will die someday like all of us will but he has not retired as the voice of Batman YET therefore he should be the one for the role until he RETIRES.
He hasn't ALWAYS played Batman. There are animated Batmans that DON'T use Conroy as the voice. The Brave and the Bold is one. that ran for 3 years (2008-2011) with someone else as the voice of Batman.
He's not THE BEST. He's just what you lot are used to hearing. There are probably plenty of better voice actors out their. And some will probably do a better job in the role. But you'll never know if you aren't willing to accept it and give someone else a chance.
Get over it and grow up. I bet Conroy himself would be ashamed by all you Conroy fanboys. How about being a Batman fan first, and a Conroy fan second.
It's more like, "I'm tired of having the same thing all the time. I want to try something new!"
