APB coming to Xbox 360 in 2008
Grand Theft Auto creator's cops-and-robbers MMORPG will cruise onto Microsoft's next-gen console in three years.
In February, the creator of the first Grand Theft Auto made public plans to bring automotive mayhem to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game genre. Scottish game designer David Jones announced the formation of a new studio, Real Time Worlds Ltd., whose first game, All Points Bulletin (APB), would be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in "a highly volatile world filled with dramatic car chases, shootouts, busts, escapes, and arrests." Korean MMORPG publisher Webzen signed on to publish the game.
While APB was originally announced solely for the PC, rumors of a console version sprang up last week. That's when Jones sealed a deal with Microsoft to develop games for its next-gen console, the Xbox 360. Seeing how APB was Real Time Worlds' sole project, many suspected it would be only a matter of time until a 360 version was announced.
It didn't take long. Today, Webzen and RTW announced that, yes, APB will indeed be released for the Xbox 360 in 2008, around one year after the PC version ships. "We are confident APB will take full advantage of Xbox 360's impressive capabilities," said Webzen CEO Nam Ju Kim. The game will be Webzen's second for the 360, after the postapocalyptic shooter Huxley.
