Animal Crossing: New Leaf arrives in June

Nintendo confirms latest entry in small-town simulation series arriving June 9 in North America and June 14 in Europe.

Today during a Nintendo Direct video presentation, the Japanese game maker announced that Animal Crossing: New Leaf will arrive in North America June 9, followed by a June 14 launch in Europe.

The game is called Animal Crossing: Jump Out in Japan and was previously slated to arrive during the first half of 2013.

Unlike in past sequels, the game's characters will have a more humanlike appearance.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf will also allow players to become the mayor of the main town and give them free rein to improve the area.

Other announcements during the Nintendo Direct presentation included Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, a new Mario Golf for the 3DS, a new DLC campaign for New Super Mario Bros. U focusing squarely on Luigi called New Super Luigi U., and the unveiling of Donkey Kong Country Returns for the 3DS.

So then, shouldn't the series be renamed to Semi-Animal Crossing?

This is why Brotherhood is my favorite Assassin's Creed.

More human-like? As in the main characters? That's cool, as long as there's still animals in, ya know, Animal Crossing. Wish that was more clear lol

Hopefully they bring back the cheat codes, NES games, and everything that made the original great. And I hope they add in more NES games, or maybe SNES games too!

So happy to hear that the release date seems to hold steady.  Every aspect that I've seen of the game thus far has been vastly improved. Finally, a TRUE follow up to the AC series after the major letdowns that Wild World and City Folk was.

@JustPlainLucas I am looking for a good follow-up as well, but I personally thought Wild World was fantastic. I was super let down by City Folk.

@JustPlainLucas The best game is the original. Nintendo just took out what made the original so great for its sequels.

@GSJones1994 @JustPlainLucas I never got around to playing the sequels. What exactly was altered?

@SeAzhrei they took out the cheat codes, NES games, and almost everything that made the original great. Yes I know critics loved Wild World, but that game's overrated.

@gokuofheaven Totally agree.  I couldn't wait, so I ended up buying a Japanese white 3DSXL and Animal Crossing. :P

Not fussed about becoming mayor. Can I become a loan shark like Tom Nook?

Maybe I should visit my old town on Gamecube.  It's probably full of weeds and cockroaches and loneliness.  And those 12-odd NES games in my basement.

@nintendoboy16 @slefo29 I still play the first one on Gamecube to this day. IMO, that is one of the best games of all time. It has not aged one bit. And the music ... Oh the music! When Metroid is released I'll blindly buy a Wii U.

@emptycow It's still better than the PS3.5 and Naughty dog yawn fest coming in 6 days time! Looks like Nintendo and M$ will come out on top again with the next gen!

@wcwj26 answering a fanboy rant with a bigger fanboy rant isn't the perfect choice. all systems have their strengths, weaknesses and great games. the end.
