David O. Russell says he would "love" either actress for the role of journalist/love interest Elena Fisher in big-screen adaptation.
David O. Russell's The Fighter has been nominated for seven Oscars, but the Hollywood man isn't just talking about his boxing film. In an interview with Empire Online, Russell discussed his next project, the big-screen adaptation of Naughty Dog's action adventure Uncharted. He said he is currently mulling over ideas for the character of journalist/love interest Elena Fisher, who first appeared in the original Uncharted title.
"Ah, Elena. I've cultivated her quite a bit, and I think I've added a lot of dimension to her so that's all I'm going to say," he said. "I love the women characters and the more robust they are, the more robust the movie."
Russell was also posed a question concerning his interest in having Amy Adams (Enchanted, Julie & Julia), the female lead of The Fighter, play Elena in the Uncharted film.
"Oh I would love that too; I love Amy [Adams]," he said. "I also love Scarlett Johansson (The Prestige, The Island); there's a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we'll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role."
In early May, Russell was among a list of potential directors for the film, and in August, it was reported that negotiations between Russell and Columbia Pictures fell through. However, now all bets seem to be back on.
Unfortunately, further specifics on the upcoming film, like a potential release date or cast members, have not been officially announced. However, Russell has indicated his interest in having Wahlberg play Nathan Drake, with Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci part of the cast as Drake's father and uncle, respectively.
@eliebaz they aren't going to make a game from the movie. I think Uncharted 3 is going to be the last Uncharted for this generation, I think I heard that and hopefully I'm wrong, so there isnt going to be a crappy movie tie-in game
if they make the game into a movie i wont buy the game. Cause all games turned into movies then a game is made on the movie, and you get a pretty crap game
Idk about you guys but I would like to be Drake in this movie if Jessica Alba was Elena and Kim Kardashian was Chloe.
When they make the film, it won't be a game so Naughty Dog doesn't really need to have anything to do with it. The movie will simply be based on the games; as in use the same characters. The only thing they need to do is try NOT to make it like the games and have a different story and not fail at making it. If they try to make it the game it will suck, guaranteed.
Why can't Sony make the Uncharted movie themselves, or at least have the head of Naughty Dog as the executive producer? Only Naughty Dog can make the movie, they made the games! BioWare is doing the same thing for the Mass Effect movie, and I have no doubts that it will be awsome. Even Valve says that if a Half-Life movie will be made, they're going to make it themselves.
No on Mark Wahlberg for Nathan Drake. They need Nathan Fillmore to play Drake, after all, they did use his likeness for the game. Scarlett Johansson to play the female lead.
Oh I see what they trying to accomplished this movie is not for the fans of the uncharted game series it for the people who know nothing about the games and the star power and the money !!!! GREAT JOB mission accomplished !!!!!!!!!!!!
I was already looking forward to this.. Now I'm over-excited for this. Pleeeeaaaase be Scarlett. Uncharted film with her in?? All my dreams come true!!!
Wow, They really just want to The Uncharted movie. He Lets go with people who are well known but dont fit the part at all so we can fill seats in a theater and drag the good name of Uncharted through the mud. Does Hollywood not remember all the other video game moves that used big name actors and how bad they failed. The halfway decent Video game movies may have had like one big name actor from the Time and they atleast fit the part. All star cast will = epic fail.
so they messed up drake and now they want to mess up elena?... and they also want to be the ones that introduce us to nathans family before the game does?... wtf, just wtf is wrong with this guy? i dont think he gets it when it comes to how important it is to retain as much of the source material as possible and to stay in bounds when it comes to story and storytelling.
@youngsexynerd 100% agree with you. I think that Russel should have at least asked the voice actors if they wanted to be in the movie.
i hope scarlett joins, she is 1 of the hottest actresses out there, an personaly i like video game movies, because i like to see a diffrent take on games that i love, everybody needs to quit whining if u dont like video game movies dont watch them, i know there not great but they r fun to watch most the time, street fighter, mortal kombat, resident evils, SILENT HILL, prince of persia, just to name a few that r all fun, any way yeah i dont want my video game movies to DIRECTLY follow every thing in the game, hell, thats why i played the game, an a movie will never replace the love i have for the game its being made about! so yeee i just wanted to say that!
The voice actress for Elena is very attractive, and she already knows the part. Why not give her a shot to act out her role? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2448361/ Wait a minute, this movie was already so far away from the base material. Why do I care?.... If I had to pick between the two of these actresses it would be Amy Adams all the way. She seems to fit the part better. Next up, God of War with Adrien Brody as Kratos.
I can't wait Scarlett Johansson is amazing and would be really good in the movie, same with Mark Wahlberg. You guys need to stop hating and recommending actors based on their looks. Movies that are based on games need good actors.
I can't believe it - there's a chance this movie might actually be good. (I'm not holding my breath.)
@zMd113: Don't be so sure they are going to screw it up... lets see how they do. never know it may not be half bad.
I think Scarlett Johansson would fit the role better. idk either of them tbh but she looks more like her than the other girl. imo
Does Russell want to die? I mean seriously, Amy Adams? Scarlett Johansson? For God's sake, I've seen both of them in action and the only thing they'd bring to an Uncharted film is chaos. They look nothing like Elena, COME ON! The problem with these video game movies is that they keep casting the damn Hollywood stars, who jump back and forth between movies and put no depth into the characters they play. Now, imagine how great the Tomb Raider film would have been if they hadn't cast that s__t Alba, and instead found some raw talent. I cannot tell you how many movie commercials I've seen that just piss all over the big screen. And they think that hiring a hit celebrity to play the part of a character who has ten times more depth than they do is a good idea?
James Roday should be Nathan Drake. Or Nathin Fillion, but James Roday LOOKS like Drake and has great comedic timing (Fillion does as well, but Roday needs a big break).
As for the girl, it doesn't matter to me until they find a better Drake :\
If Nathan Fillion is not playing Nathan Drake, you should not even consider seeing this movie. End of discussion.
Mark Wahlberg not good choice for this game (and all game-movie, like MAX PAYNE) but i think HUGH JACKMAN is good choice for nathan drake...
I hope Amy Adams gets ist, she was brilliant in Doubt - she has the chops to make any role work. I am still sad Nathan Fillion won't be Drake...that seemed a perfect choice, like Patrick Stewart as Prof. X.
BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Way to screw up a movie about a game that should be pretty darn easy to make! Both UNCHARTED games feel like you're playing through a movie already.
As much as I love Scarlett Johannson, I have to go with Amy Adams between these two. She's got the star power (unlike some others people have thrown around) and she fits the girl next door cute-but-not-supermodel smart archetype that Elena is. Let's hope the rest of the cast fills out, with stars that are real stars and appropriate for the roles. Doing it just one way (Mark Walhberg seems off as Nate, much as I like him in some other movies) or the other (Nathan Fillion didn't have the star power to save Serenity, and he doesn't have it to make this a blockbuster, even if he is perfect for the role) is gonna make this movie underperform critically or commercially. This is one franchise that could definitely break the "video game movies suck" curse, although personally I thought Prince of Persia was pretty good.
The Uncharted series are my favorite games, but this movie is gonna suck balls. Elena's attraction is that she is sexy without being overtly sexy. They should get someone like Emmy Rossum to play her not Johansson.
Yes of course, let us put a sexual bombshell with into the role of a mere world journalist. So realistic.
I'm sure Scarlett Johansson would be a popular choice, but what makes Elena such a great character is that she's not your typical exaggerated "hot" video game character. She's cute, spunky, but most of all she just seems real. In this case, Amy Adams would be a MUCH better fit.
I hope and pray and beg and implore to god they don't ruin the movie. Hollywood will never break off of the chains from ruining every video game's unique magic every time they put their hands on em. Uncharted will live on nonetheless. Its Naughty God ;)
Both are great actresses but seriously why not Emily Rose? You know? The actress who voices Elena. She looks just like her for gods sake!
