Xbox 360 US July sales reach 107,000 units
NPD data shows sales of Microsoft's console fall significantly year-over-year; total retail spend for the month hits $178 million.
Microsoft sold 107,000 Xbox 360 systems in July in the United States, the company announced today, citing data from the NPD Group. This figure is down sharply from the 203,000 consoles the company sold during July 2012.
The Xbox 360 has now been the best-selling console in the US for 31 straight months. The top-selling game system overall for July, however, was the Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo did not share sales data for the 3DS, though it is now known that the figure is above 107,000 units.
Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in the US during July (hardware, software, and accessories) was $178 million, the most for any console, Microsoft said.
Microsoft will release the Xbox One this November, but support for the Xbox 360 will continue for "years," according to Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer.
