Tim Schafer is coming to Australia.

Schafer will be joined by former Lionhead game designer Peter Molyneux at the opening of Game Masters, an interactive exhibition that will showcase the work of celebrated game designers from Australia and overseas through a combination of concept art, interviews, and more than 125 playable games from the arcade era through to new releases.

The ACMI announced that both Schafer and Molyneux will take part in public programs, including education and industry programs, during their stay.

Schafer began his career at LucasArts working on adventure games including Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango. He left in 2000 to start his own studio, Double Fine Productions, which to date has released Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, Costume Quest, Stacking, Iron Brigade, and Double Fine Happy Action Theater for the Kinect. Schafer and Double Fine recently set records on crowd-funding platform Kickstarter for a new adventure title to be finished before the end of the year.

ACMI's Game Masters will feature Schafer alongside the creators of franchises including Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Brothers, The Sims, Rock Band, and The Legend of Zelda. Schafer's own exhibit during Game Masters will include playable versions of his games and concept art. The museum has also announced it will provide fans with an opportunity to hear from Schafer in the coming months.

Game Masters will open at ACMI on June 28 and run through to October 28, 2012.
