Xbox 360 crosses 57 million units worldwide
Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb reveals new sales milestone for Microsoft's box.
Nearly six years after its launch, Microsoft continues to sell millions of Xbox 360s every quarter. Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb revealed via Twitter today that the Xbox 360 has now crossed 57 million systems sold worldwide.
Microsoft is pushing to add to that tally for the holiday season, with various new hardware bundles. Gears of War 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have their own specialized console bundles this year, and the introduction of next year's Star Wars Kinect will see the release of a R2-D2-styled console. The Redmond-based company also recently introduced two new holiday console bundles, running $299 with two games, and $399 for two games and a Kinect.
Microsoft's latest tally puts the Xbox 360 slightly ahead of the PlayStation 3, with Sony reporting lifetime sales through September 30 of 55.5 million units worldwide. Nintendo sits out ahead of both HD system holders with its end-of-September financials pegging the Wii at 89 million units sold worldwide.
