Five more 3DS Ambassador games named

When Nintendo first revealed the 3DS price cut, it also announced a 3DS Ambassador program to give 20 free downloadable games to anyone who had purchased the system at its launch price. At the time, Nintendo revealed 10 of those titles, and today the company added another five to that list.

The newly revealed games are all downloadable editions of original NES games, highlighted by Samus' original outing in Metroid, and the side-scrolling action sequel Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Less familiar games in the batch include the self explanatory NES Open Tournament Golf, the puzzle game Yoshi, and the Mario spin-off Wrecking Crew, which included its own level editor.

Those five titles will round out the list of 10 NES originals in the 3DS Ambassador program, joining the previously announced Super Mario Bros., Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Legend of Zelda, and Donkey Kong, Jr. The remaining 10 titles in the program are all pulled from the Game Boy Advance, but only five of those have yet been confirmed: Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

All of the NES games will eventually be made available to non-Ambassadors through the 3DS eShop, but Nintendo has said it has no plans right now to offer the Game Boy Advance titles for purchase to the general customer base.

3DS Ambassadors should be able to download the NES games starting September 1, while the Game Boy Advance titles are slated for release later this year. To be eligible for the program, 3DS owners had to connect to the Nintendo eShop or perform the latest system update before midnight US Eastern time on August 11.
