AU Shippin' Out July 18-22: Call of Juarez: The Cartel

Ubisoft goes head-to-head against Mexican drug lords this week with the release of Call of Juarez: The Cartel.

This week sees Ubisoft take the Call of Juarez franchise out of the Wild West and transport it into a modern-day setting with Call of Juarez: The Cartel. Set during a bitter war between US law enforcement officers and the Mexican drug cartel, players get to pick one of three characters to fight as, with each character having a different impact on the game's story. While it might appear from the outset that Ubisoft has just swapped six-shooters for semiautomatic handguns and horses for cars, there are still several ties to the previous Wild West games for fans of the franchise to sink their teeth into.

The second and only other game to be released this week is Earth Defence Force: Insect Armageddon. While you can go up against the invading insects solo through the game's single-player mode, the main focus here is on the co-op play, which supports up to six players online.

Unfortunately, the rest of July is pretty slim, with just a few Sony bundles coming out toward the end of the month. Sadly, even August doesn't get interesting until the 21st, when Deus Ex: Human Revolution is released. With the next few weeks set to be really quiet, now's a great opportunity to start knocking out games in your "to play" list that's been building up over the past few months!
