An unfinished version of Epic's upcoming sci-fi shooter sequel Gears of War 3 has made its way onto torrent sites, revealing the game's entire single-player campaign and some multiplayer options.

According to a NeoGAF post and several supporting YouTube clips, the unfinished developer build of Gears of War 3 leaked online is a JTAG version, meaning it will only play on modded Xbox 360 consoles used in development kits.

With the game still more than two months away, news reports of the leak are urging gamers to stay away, both as a way to avoid spoilers and as a mark of respect for Epic Games.

The studio confirmed that the content released is not from a final build of the game, telling GameSpot: "We have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the Web and [we are] working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation. This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches worldwide on September 20, 2011."

Last month Epic Games announced 1.29 million gamers from 145 countries tried out the beta for the game, which ran from April 18 to May 15. Further, Gears of War 3 reached 1 million preorders, faster than any other Xbox 360-exclusive, beating out Halo: Reach and Halo 3.

To date, combined sales of the original Gears of War and its sequel have reached 12 million units. Gears of War 3 design director Cliff Bleszinksi recently claimed he hopes Gears of War 3 sales will top US$6 million.
