Alan Wake series to continue this fall - Report
Remedy franchise dev head Oskari Hakkinen says new psycho-thriller game won't be a sequel or DLC; price, platforms TBA.
Yesterday, signs seemed to indicate that Remedy and Microsoft would be teaming on Alan Wake 2, when the LinkedIn profile of a previsualization artist name-checked the unannounced project. That mystery has lasted all of a day, as Remedy confirmed to Joystiq this morning that it will indeed return to its psychological thriller, although not in such a straightforward way as a sequel.
"Now that the cat is out of the bag, we owe it to you and the fans to shed a little more light before we get the chance to officially show them what the guys have been up to," said Remedy franchise development chief Oskari Hakkinen. "Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming!"
Hakkinen went on to note that the new title will not be a sequel to the original Alan Wake, nor will it be a new batch of downloadable content. As to the exact nature of the game, fans of the franchise will have to wait until Remedy is ready to make its official announcement, he said.
"We are really excited about this project which a slice of our team has been working on for the last months," Hakkinen also noted. "It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board."
Fortunately, the game's reveal will likely be arriving soon, as Remedy expects to ship the project in fall 2011. Interestingly, Hakkinen also said that platforms and pricing have not yet been announced. The original Alan Wake was first announced for the Xbox 360 and PC, though the desktop edition was later placed on indefinite hold.
