Despite its name, Rebellion is a developer capable of going along with the crowd. The studio today announced that it is setting up a new division specifically to focus on the burgeoning trend of social and mobile game development.

Rebellion's core game lineup includes Konami's NeverDead.
Rebellion's core game lineup includes Konami's NeverDead.

The UK developer's first step in that direction, the Facebook game Evil Genius, has been in beta release since last year. That title casts players as the heads of their own criminal empires and encourages them to enlist friends to aid and abet them in their dirty work.

However, the studio isn't turning all of its attention to the social space. The company is also working with Konami on NeverDead, a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 horror action adventure announced at last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Previously, Rebellion created last year's Aliens vs. Predator first-person shooter for Sega, as well as 2009's Rogue Warrior.
