Mirror's Edge 2 development 'stalled' - Report
Swedish developer DICE says production on sequel to well-received 2008 original has been put on hold; sales of original lower than expected.
Gamers holding out for a sequel to the DICE-developed 2008 original intellectual property Mirror's Edge should be prepared for a long wait.
In a translated interview with Swedish games site Vicachu, DICE executive Patrick Soderlund said sales of Mirror's Edge--a first-person free-running title--weren't where the studio wanted them to be.
He also noted that the studio began development on Mirror's Edge 2 and even created a prototype. However, development on the title has since "stalled," and the developers have moved onto other projects. Though the Mirror's Edge franchise is "close to his heart," Sunderland said he can't develop the title for the sake of "charity."
Stockholm-based DICE is currently creating Battlefield 3 for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall. It will be the first entry in the core series since Battlefield 2 released exclusively on the PC in 2005.
