$17,000 PC/Xbox 360 gaming rig released

Origin offering cash-flush gamers "Big O" high-end PC gaming rig, liquid-cooled Xbox 360 slim in a single system; entry model costs just $7,669.

Though there's a recession on, some gamers still spend buckets of ducats to get top-performance gaming rigs. Custom PC specialist Origin is reaching out to just such a spendthrift demographic with its latest system--cheekily named "The Big O"--which combines both a high-end PC and an Xbox 360 slim in a single, extremely expensive box.

On the PC side, the Big O is customizable, with one or two six-core, 12-thread Intel Xeon X5680 CPUs which can be overclocked to 4.3 Ghz on a ASUS Rampage III Extreme Motherboard. It also boasts a SLI multi-GPU configuration, which can have up to four GeForce GTX 480 FTW graphics cards. Up to 12GB of RAM can be given to device, all versions of which have 2TB hard drives, liquid cooling systems, and customizable cases.

Two things make the Big O unique in today's gaming market. First is its inclusion of an entire Xbox 360 slim, also liquid-cooled, inside the same box. Second is the device's whopping price. The entry-level model, which has a single CPU and GPU, rings up at $7,669. The version recently featured in CPU magazine, which boasts two CPUs and four GPUS amongst other features, rings up at a whopping $16,999--as much as a low-end new car or a round-the-world vacation.

Needing a comp this retarded isn't the point, of course its way overkill. I bet 8 out of 10 people would buy this if they were a hardcore gamer and like flashy electronics (if money wasn't an issue of course). If I won the lottery I would order this tomorrow just for bragging rights lol, hell i'd buy one for all my friends that game too.

For 17K I'd build 3 powerful PC's and be good for a long time.....and why does IGN/Gamespot/Kotaku etc see the 360 inside as a bonus? seriously if your spending that much on a computer for games why would a person even waste time with the xbox?

Hahaha... f that you can build that same pc for 12k less anyways and thats still way to expensive i just built my beast under 3k and it will kill any software as it stands haha.

LOL if you had dual or quad 480 GTX why would you even want to play a crappy console? Halo reach is under 720p and it came out this week.. pathetic. HD begins at 720p remember? LLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!! besides real PC gamers build their own systems people who buy premade builds from HP,alienware, dell etc are as bad as mac users and console gamers..you know the type..stupid people who want things that just work out of the box.

A PC/PS3 combo would be better. All games on 360 usually go to PC anyway

For 17 Grand I can buy twelve, TWELVE, very very decent computers and build them myself. Then I can also get a business loan with my good credit and set up a gaming boutique store.
Then charge hourly pay and minimal charges for LAN parties. Or you know.. I could buy an "Origin" PC.
    Scoff much?

Ok, I can spend less then $3000 to get the best Xbox on the market and put together a pc that can run the most intensive games, why in the world would I spend 17k? I don't want to hear this garbage about boasting ether, any real pc gamer custom builds there own pc, anyone paying $17k for a pre made pc is gonna get laughed at.

Why to use a console inside a PC and then fill the PC with Graphic Cards, useless. Besides after 1 or 2 years the components get old and there will be newer and faster ones in the market.

The value of this PC is overpriced. Slick design is not worth such money. For this kinda money, you can buy poweful server and link it with the video card array and still save money. Put X360 and PC in one box and add liquid cooling is not worth it. Also there is no software layer that allows to launch Xbox360 games from Windows. You have to switch manually. Alienware is way awesome and cheaper...

Whoaa! That's too expensive! i'd rather spend my 17k with all the gadgets i want. Set up high-end pc and customized consoles!

    Total overkill.
By the time any game needs all it's power to run @ max settings this thing will be obsolete.

Well.... was this a joke?? I mean u can buy both a xbox 360 and a superb gaming pc for half the rate they are telling. One can even buy multiple xbox 360 and pc. This is definetly just for fun. Nothing else...

    Posted Sep 10, 2010 5:30 am GMT

    @rarson

PC's dont really eat much power. even the beefy ones.

this rig would probably need a 1.5 + psu. sure that sounds like a lot. but it's generally not running anywhere near that. only when it's required (only when gaming or doing anything that requires the power from 4 gpu's). plus they are generally only around at the most 90% efficient.

you'd use more electricity running a storage heater.

    @ Chris_53

lol SLI'd 480's at 1900 x 1200 stil drips below 50! i dont know what the scaling is like with 4 gpu's though.

the 4 series scales Very Very well! i might have to go lookin for some benchies!

  • QuatrixJ

Or you can get just barely slower components for much, much less. Near the top of the CPU and GPU markets you might pay double for something 5% faster. Anyone with sense buys the third or fourth from the top.

xbox and pc in one... for $17k.... in other words, this is for gamers who rather blow their money on an all in one machine than save up for a bigger apartment.

@rugripper40 - True, and I have built systems for around the price of $1500 before that eclipsed those markets. The Alienware was $2350(hardly 7 grand) which with the same hardware would have cost me $1800 to build. Obvious markups and namesakes at work but I am guilty of at the time simply wanting an Alienware machine and not wanting to bother with too much else.. plus I had the cash. Hardly a beast of a machine, only a couple nvidia 8800 GTX's(both overclocked), 3GB RAM, and core 2 extreme 6850 processor and it all still does the job very nicely. Sure it cost a bit more but I'm not too upset about it since it's been a solid enough investment.. I think you were just trying to call me a dumbass but I responded anyway. =] I would like to see this 1000 buck notebook that can play Crysis without a hitch on full settings, AA and AS maxed.

  • Sameo

    Posted Sep 9, 2010 12:35 pm GMT

you could build a computer with the same performance if not better (quad sli? total hosing on todays games.. it's detrimental) for 1/6th that price

that aliienware pc that you bought for 7 grand could have been built for 1500 to 2000 grand back in the day....that pc there selling is a waste of money if you know how to build one, which is very easy btw you could use cheaper parts, water cool it,and overclock... it will have the same quaility of gameplay ...etc...at the end of the day...even play crysis....lmfao.....my 1000 buck notebook almost plays crysis without a hitch.....lol....to build a super computer and try to sell this nuclear powered machine to someone is a waste of time and energy....but we all know some jack, sucker, etc will buy this piece of junk and brag all over the net how great it is....lol

@FuBi2k old Alienware Area-51 from three years ago can still run games maxed out at 1600x1200 res

If you have that much money, you probably dont have time to play games. Its a bragging product. Nothing more.

  • kmconstable

    Posted Sep 9, 2010 10:06 am GMT

It would definitely max out Crysis even at 1600p. Just a pointless rig though. Could build it yourself for cheaper.

  • FuBi2k

    Posted Sep 9, 2010 10:05 am GMT

Stop saying PC hardware is obsolete in 6 months. While it used to be the case, most of the upgrades now are overkill for most games. Even my old Alienware Area-51 from three years ago can still run games maxed out at 1600x1200 res and its complete specs are lower-medium end by today's "gaming rig standards". Not top of the line by any means anymore but as long as it can run high demand games flawlessly, it's silly call it obsolete yet.

  • Chris_53

What is the POINT of "integrating" an X360 with a PC? How exactly can you really, really "integrate" a closed off console with a PC? What exactly are they doing here that I can't get done with a good roll of duct-tape? (Except the part where the 360 gets liquid cooling for 'free' with the rest of the PC) This is beyond stupid!

  • rarson

    Posted Sep 9, 2010 5:39 am GMT

I do like the idea of having an Xbox 360 integrated into the PC, but that would have to be in addition to a console or media center PC in the living room. Honestly, there isn't anywhere I'd like having a huge, ugly box like this (to all the people saying "you know deep down you really want one"). It's bad enough that it eats power but it's gigantic. I really DON'T want one.

Instead, I'd rather have a MicroATX computer with a fast processor and 2 5770's or something, a computer that will play pretty much every game I throw at it maxed out at my monitors' native resolutions, encode video, and do gobs of multitrack audio recording all in a package less than a fifth the size (portability) while also eating less than a fifth the power. Heck, throw in media center PC and a 360 and we still haven't even gotten close to the price of this thing.
