Killzone 3 deploys February 22

Sony nails down release date for Guerrilla Games' Move-compatible 3D shooter.

At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sony revealed that Killzone 3 would arrive sometime next February. Eager fans of the series won't need to worry about the first-person shooter interfering with Valentine's Day plans, as Sony today announced that Killzone 3 will launch on February 22.

As the name suggests, Killzone 3 will serve as a direct sequel to 2009's critically lauded Killzone 2. In last year's title, the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance took the fight to the Helghan homeworld, where they achieved a measure of success against the Nazi-esque civilization of invaders in the 2004 original.

For the third entry in the series, Amsterdam-based Guerrilla Games will be fleshing out the Helghan homeworld with more enemy types, larger and more diverse environments, and jetpacks. With the futuristic personal conveyance, gamers gain the ability to thrust skyward for a limited period of time, affording them access to heretofore unreachable locations and opening up the possibility of aerial gunfights.

Killzone 3 will also support Sony's PlayStation Move peripheral, as well as stereoscopic 3D displays. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Just wondering does anyone else find it hard to pull off fast headshots in Killzone 2? I must admit I sold the game because I just couldn't get to grips with it. I'm a decent gamer and have played enough FPS games on PC/PS3/360 to high levels. I could do headshots but they never felt natural - not a criticism of the game just something I found odd.

@ico92 I agree with that statement since no one that comments on how good or bad it's going to be can be bothered to spend more than 1 min to explain why.

@bennae66. I'm with you man, i have been gaming for way too long to be impressed by this kind of hyped games. Halo, Killzone, Resistance, Gears of War, they are all pretty much the same thing, point, shoot, kill, move from point A to point B. . do it again and again and again. . I guess I have been playing games for so long i have become bitter LOL. I prefer game with a bit more substance than that. like say, Fallout 3, Demon's Soul, Valkyria Chronicles, Dragon's age or maybe Dead Space (I know, a shooter, but i was a dang good one and the weapons where interesting), those are some of the games i have greatly enjoyed this generation.

@bennae66 - I wouldn't say you were such a rare breed, I too have some feelings in that direction, but then I also don't view all games such as KZ/Gears et-al in the same light really... there IS a lot of generic stuff out there, but for me, the great stuff really shines. Both Killzone 2 and Gears 1 & 2 were definitely games for me that I enjoyed immensely this gen, and were examples of how the shooter genre can be done properly... then again, I don't really like Resistance at all, nor have I liked Halo 2 or 3, and these games do sell very well, I just happen to find them boring personally. There are a ton of other shooters out there too which are garbage, but I won't burn the toast I had for my breakfast even mentioning them (hey, it was good toast! )... actually - one of my most played games this gen is a multiplayer shooter, and I don't even normally like multiplayer, I'm a single player person mainly - it was the downloadable Battlefield 1943. Awesome, awesome game... played that to death and back. And yet, amongst all those shooters, I still love the other genres too. My only "concern", if you like, for the industry is not the number of similar games in one genre since the great ones shine as I say, it's the sales figures for the generic ones VS the real classy, inventive games.... the only way we'll stave that problem is for those who truly love other genres to actually go out and buy games instead of just talking about how cool they are.

Way more? The only exclusive xbox shooter I can think of is halo there is left for dead but that's also on PC so I wouldn't really say it's exclusive

wow i diddnt mean to whip up a storm with my post. it was more of a plea to find like minded individuals without resorting to baseless, fanboyish arguments. i disagree with what ico92 is saying (as i wouldnt have written a post on here if i diddnt feel strongly about it) but i respect his right to say it. freedom of speech is one of the last things we have left. and the internet is the last place we have to use that freedom. (fanboyish one eyed arguments that contain words like 'Fony' or 'M$' need not apply tho. there is a difference between constructive feedback and spam trolling. id like to think my comments were neither) i tried to bring fourth a genuine concern for the state of the games industry, and popular trends. this is on topic, due to the fact that games like killzone - the topic of this article - cod, and gears are flagbearers for mindless devolved graphical showcases. it seems i am a rare breed indeed.

@ico92 - I can understand what you're saying too, but you're own last post is a little contradictory... If you can take criticism that is subjective and valid like you say, then you shouldn't go on to say if you have no hype for a game, don't bother commenting. Everyone does indeed have a right to comment, and it's better if it is constructive and valid - perhaps that's what you were trying to get across? I myself feel very much the same as you when I read generic fanboyish comments one after the other, but to be honest, you gotta just get used to it, cos it will happen whether we like it or not. You can either let it bother you, or ignore it. As long as I don't read inflammatory and rude comments where some idiots really lower themselves with insults etc, then I just ignore the idiotic "*insert system name here*... FTW" comments.

  • ico92

    Posted Sep 5, 2010 1:12 pm GMT

@Nuggetol I understand your point, but there comes a point when the same old comments pop up e.g. "bla bla its just another shooter" "bla bla im more hyped for this game" "bla bla generic bla" The point im trying to make is that i can read criticism, i can take criticism, but the criticism im seeing for this game in fact every popular game yet to be released is all the same cr@p, it isn't anything subjective or valid, and even if it was its not really gonna change the way people view the game, its like me going on to every Madden/COD article and saying its the same sh!t over and over again, downplaying the game it doesn't matter because the millions are still gonna buy the games regardless of my criticism. If you have no hype for a game don't bother commenting, because most people honestly couldn't care less about your opinion. i have no hype for Madden or COD BO, am i gonna go on to articles about those games and b!tch ? no because i know people couldn't care about my opinion, and it isn't going to change the way people view the game.

@ico92 People are free to comment regardless whether it's positive or negative. This section is really for those people who want to voice their opinions although some people just abuse it and don't even make criticism or even compliments constructive.

i kinda understand, your the type of gamer that likes games with great stories or lots of features/content etc.. im therefore gonna assume you like games like LBP,Halo,Alan Wake,Uncharted-2, MGS, Zelda, SSBB, GT, Thats fine because i like games like that, but if you have zero hype for this game why bother commenting ?

as an owner of both a ps3 and a 360, im not overly excited about killzone3. 2 was graphically amazing but i really felt the gameplay and story were very average. i also hated the control scheme which unless i missed something, was very limiting in its setup. it was very grey. very black. and lots of red eyes everywhere and enemies in black and grey. im sure many will disagree and this will get thumbs down, but im also not that keen for gears of war 3, or call of duty black ops. ive had enough call of duty and my opinion on gears of war 3 mimicks that of killzone 3 (minus the red eyes). perhaps i am a rare breed? im far more looking forward to reach (because of forge) and the latest ghost recon. i think theres few games companies left that make something 'special.' yeh the graphics can be mindblowing, but i prefer wipeout hd over killzone and i hardly ever buy or play racers. is there anyone else out there who feels the same? this mindless trudge from point a to point b, shoot anything that moves, muscly, overly patriotic single minded protagonists that swear all the time, etc. BUT its got awesome graphics! ive been gaming waaaay too long, and im kinda over all that stuff. and yes, this is on topic. and no, this is not a fanboy rant, unless you are one eyed you should be able to see that.

I think a lot of game reviewers will see this as "Killzone 2.5" and give it a lower score than Killzone 2. Still, the graphics are as amazing as ever (like watching a CGI movie). I love watching Killzone gameplay videos simply because of the graphics.

@lowkey254 if you read my comment my point was that the 360 has WAY more and WAY better FPS and it better suited for FPS than the PS3, BUT nonetheless KILLZONE 2 was the best single player FPS ever made. I was just trying to point out what a great game it was. I was 100% on topic.

Cyrsis is only graphics and lacks gameplay, it's a poor story, and there's nothing fancy about it but huge chickens and good looking graphics.
