Tron: Evolution begins Dec. 7

Disney and Propaganda's vehicular action game cruising onto 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, DS, PC two weeks before film; $130 collector's edition includes light cycle model.

Tron: Legacy is expected to anchor Walt Disney Pictures' Christmas blockbuster offerings this year when it is released in theaters on December 17. Disney Interactive Studios' film tie-in will arrive nearly two weeks before, as the publisher announced today that Tron: Evolution has been given a December 7 release date for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, DS, and PC.

Along with announcing a formal launch window for the Propaganda Games-developed action/vehicular combat game, Disney offered first word on the game's Collectors' Edition, which will be available only for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Following in the vein of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Halo: Reach, and Gran Turismo 5, Tron: Evolution's limited-edition package will carry a hefty premium over its standard-edition counterpart, costing $130.

Spiking the package's cost is an exclusive Tron light cycle collectible model (pictured), which is being manufactured by Sideshow Collectibles. The Collectors' Edition package also comes with a special casing to house the model, which in turn features a pullout drawer in its base for the game's box.

Detailing the events between the original Tron--released theatrically in 1982--and its imminent predecessor, Tron: Evolution features a story that further fleshes out the franchise's universe. Disney has positioned it as an integrated companion piece, where the film will reference events that occur in the game. However, the publisher also noted that both the film and the game operate just as well as stand-alone experiences.

I haven't seen anything from this game to make me think it will be worthy of my hard-earned money.

Am I the only one who thinks this reeks of the Matrix movie/game storyline crossovers? Great idea poorly executed. I hope this will be better. As much as I love Tron, that price tag is way too prohibitive.

Coolyfett can careless about the collectable stuff, But Coolyfett definately likes how the movie looks and always wanted to see those types of visuals in a space aged game. Coolyfett will definately have this game, when it hits the streets. This game will make Coolyfett unstoppable!!

For that price, I'd want a lightcycle model I can sit on while I play and/or use as a game controller.

$130?? Seriously, is anyone stupid enough to pay that much for a game that comes with a fancy box and a plastic toy?

Depressingly, I fear the answer is 'yes'.

I defiantly want to do a bit more research on this collectible before putting my money down at GameStop but looks pretty cool. I am a hoping that the developers didn't put all their money down on the collectible box and release a mediocre game to such a classic as Tron.

dude cmon i went to SDCC and got the lightcycle for 5 bucks at Disney's booth. Granted, is wasn't Sideshow Collectibles. a better pack in would be the Tron Bearbrick...waaaaayyy cooler than the lightcycle.

Hasbro makes children's toys, don't they? I don't think Sideshow makes those.

damn does every freakin' game need a collector's edition now??? Buy them if your heart tells you so but I'll stick with buying games by themselves. All that extra stuff they make you buy for nearly the price of the game itself would just end up in some bin in my basement....

I'm really hoping that the film turns out great, I can't wait to see it on Imax.
You never know the game could be decent............then again game/film tie-ins, its hard to have much faith until its out.

  • FallenOneX

    Posted Aug 30, 2010 5:55 pm GMT

As much as I loved Tron growing up, FAIL. For $130 the light cycle should have at least been an R/C toy that would never have been played with. Much.

Does the Lightcycle light up? I'll definitely be there day 1 when the film hits theaters. Tron Legacy has been a long time coming but I'm not as sure about the game. Everything I've seen looks good but I'll wait and see what the reviews and people say about it......

    A CE for a movie Tie-In game... that's new.
Only collectors edition I own is Halo Reach, nothing else thrilled me.

Hmm Matrix, anyone? Does anyone else remember how the Matrix tried to do much the same thing?

Too bad they're not planning to do a Collector's Edition for PC. I would buy that, like I bought the CE for StarCraft 2. After all the world of Tron is supposed to exist inside a computer system, not a gaming console. Still, if they throw in an art book and a sound track, I might break down and get it for PS3. I have a PS3 but I mostly use it for watching Blu-rays, such as (hopefully before too much longer) the original Tron.

Another example of the current trend of making collectors edition filled with crap in hopes of making a larger profit margin. The good thing, people who like CEs know to steer clear of stinkers like this. The bad thing, game companies who invest money in crap like this, which then doesn't sell, hurt the chances of worthwhile CEs being released later on.

"which is being manufactured by Sideshow Collectibles"

Hey Sideshow Collectibles, Hasbro called and they said they can make your toy for 3 bucks and sell it for 10, instead of charging 70.

    f***ng "a" holes

This a game based on a movie. What are the chances of anybody actually wanting this? Not to mention the price is just absurd. Some collector's editions, just like some DLCs, just go too far into milking territory.

TRON: Evolution begins Dec 7th......... and ends later that night.

a game and movie with this look might have been super advanced back in the 80's when it first came out, but in 2010? ...... both the movie and game will FAIL miserably... the color blue will grate on the nerves, oh I would say in about 8 minutes.
