DJ Hero 2 spinning October 19

Activision's turntable-based rhythm game returns for 360, PS3, Wii in two months with 90 on-disc tracks.

Activision's Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is due out on September 28, and heavyweight Call of Duty: Black Ops lights up retail November 9. However, the publisher is sliding another game in between those two, DJ Hero 2, Activision confirmed today.

An Activision representative told GameSpot that the music-mixing sequel will hit the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii on October 19 in North America and on October 22 in Europe. The title was previously announced as pegged to arrive with a less specific "fall."

The game will come in a variety of bundles. This includes a "party in a box" set ($149.99) that includes a copy of the game, two turntables, and a microphone, as well as a single-turntable bundle ($99) and a version without accessories ($49.99 for the Wii, $59.99 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3).

As for the game's soundtrack, DJ Hero 2 will ship with 90 on-disc artists, ranging from pop diva Lady Gaga to headbangers Metallica. Additionally, the sequel features an all-new single-player mode, which casts players as a struggling DJ working his way up to media mogul stature.

DJ Hero 2 was first confirmed in January by Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. While the critical reception for DJ Hero was generally positive, sales were disappointing, though Activision claimed it was the most successful new intellectual property of 2009 in terms of revenue.

A new DJ hero would definitely require a wider setlist. A broader selection of songs/tracks would strengthen the appeal.

@SuperNonHuman - "Can anyone answer this! Will Dj Hero 1 songs work with Dj Hero 2? Like what Rock Band 2 did with Rock Band 1 songs!?"

I hope so, but don't get your hopes up. Activision wouldn't really be the type to do that unless competition pressurized them into it. I guarantee you that GHWT wouldn't have been importable into GH5 if they hadn't realized that RB2 was doing well because of RB1 & DLC compatibility.

Unfortunately, Activision are the only ones with a turntable controller out there, so don't be surprised to find the exact same game, with just a few tune-ups.

(Side-note - I'm waiting for Activision to announce their "all-new and innovative" guitar controller for the next GH game that simulates playing a real guitar, and an Expert+ Guitar mode ingame to come with it...)

Nobody cares about Activision anymore. For those of you who are buying this or CoD: Black Ops, congratulations, you're pathetic tools.

just heard that the ps3 version of mafia 2 is inferior to the 360 version, PS3 version of this game will be lacking grass, blood splatter, and clothing physics in the final build, key visual features that the 360 version will have.
    http://n4g.com/news/585419/mafia-ii-final-ps3-build-has-no-grass-less-blood-and-inferior-cloth-movement
I'm tired of paying for inferior PS3 multiplats

I find it SOOOO funny that there is all this trash talk about activision and their games and yet their games sell soo much better and quicker than most developers and each time they make a sequel the sell better than all the stupid dlc that comes out every week on other game... kids need to realize what ever works... works

Yes quite typical for Activi$ion to milk their products. Who would pay each year for this crap?????

  • Trogeton

    Posted Aug 22, 2010 8:51 am GMT

I actually would still like to own 1 of these just because it something different, but the activision hating fan boys will keep hating but yet I would not talk smack about a game while you are still getting supported by other people so to try to make someone feel bad for liking a game.. you have no life and activision is still doing excellent on making profits and excellent games that make excellent sales

We have so many boxes of DJ Hero, Band Hero, and Guitar Hero at work just taking up space it's crazy. Shows how people dont really care about the music game genre anymore, no thanks to Activision.

So their games are supposed to bring much revenue. /
First there is DJ Hero 2, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band.
Then there are franchises like COD, Halo, GT5, DKCR, Assasins Creed, Kirby, and MoH. There is Move and Kinect which are supposed to be huge on the market. Congrats on making huge amounts of money because most likely you won't

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm looking forward to it. I enjoyed the first DJ Hero and thought it was a nice change of pace from the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games that are on their umpteenth version by now and I feel like they are basically doing the same thing with every new installment and the various band-themed spin-offs of the series. DJ Hero brought a different genre of music to the spotlight that wasn't really featured in the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games and the turntable accessory provided an interesting twist on the music gameplay formula. Hopefully DJ Hero 2 has several new things to bring to the (turn)table, the addition of a story mode sounds like a good start.

@sammoth hey troll, there's only been two. Get back to me when they're on 4 or 5. It's a great, original idea (as much as a music game can be original). The problem is that the appeal is very limited (who scratches regularly??) and the mix choices need to be a little more "across the board" demographically. The metallica mix is a nice step towards that.
