Goldeneye 007 classic controller goes gold

Activision announces $69.99 software/controller bundle; packs in gilded Wii Classic Controller Pro.

The Nintendo 64 shooter Goldeneye 007, a game heralded as pioneering the multiplayer movement, featured a one-shot-kill golden gun. Activision is bringing that gun back in the upcoming altered Wii remake, and along with it will come a golden controller as well.

Activision sent word today that it's planning to release a special Goldeneye 007 Classic Edition bundle that will pack in a copy of the game and a gold-colored Wii Classic Controller Pro. Activision did not announce a price for the bundle, but GameSpot sister site CNET is reporting the bundle will be available for $69.99.

Goldeneye 007 for the Wii will afford gamers a number of control options, including the ability to play using the standard Wii Remote/Nunchuk combination, the point-and-shoot Zapper peripheral, or the aforesaid gamepad.

As for the game, Goldeneye 007 for the Wii will include online multiplayer, a functionality its N64 cousin could not offer. In addition, players will be able to take part in 16 game modes, including Goldeneye 007 N64 favorites Paintball, Melee Only, and You Only Live Twice.

On top of that, players can square off against each other in the game's adversarial modes, with the roster including eight characters from the revered Bond classic, as well as 40 other unnamed virtual soldiers.

The game is currently in development at Eurocom under the banner of Activision, the publisher that currently holds the license to create James Bond titles. A Nintendo DS version of Goldeneye 007--currently in development at n-Space--will also be released this holiday.

    @-Squirrel-

the best person to do a remake would be microsoft!!!!!

it was a rareware title! i don't expect all the kids to know... but geez.

this is going to fail. and before you say it, im no fanboy. i've got all three consoles.

but check out the xbox live arcade. Rareware (makeers of goldeneye) have released perfect dark in HD! Banjo Kazooie & Banjo Tooie in HD.

they are the guys to bring goldeneye back. them or free radical.

my wii only has two games that i actively play. (once a week?)

it was such a waste of money. i've been a loyal ninty fan since the snes.

i wont be investing my money in the next console until i see a change of direction. the wii seriously sucks, they sold out for the mass market and i've lost shed loads of respect for them.

So, are they suggesting this game plays better with two analog sticks rather than the Wiimote + Nunchuck? I want to know because if I get this controller, and I'm playing my friends, I don't want them to get that controller if it makes them almost unbeatable. I want it instead.

dual sticks> motion controls they just admitted it. On the other hand triggers>shoulder buttons and wireless>wired... come on activison pull your head out of that stinky hole before it gets stuck... ohh wait. ohh well these guys could poop a 12 pound lead turd and sell it for 100 bucks a pop and there would be someone dumb enough to buy it.

13 minutes to watch the same mission. If Activision wants to hype this game badly, then they would launch more trailers. All we saw was the Golden Gun mission

    @m30w_cP
The controller is a limited edition specifically for this game, therefore, will most likely not be available on its own, only bundled with the game.
    $50 for the game + $20 for the controller = $70 bundle.
The only reason you would buy it as a bundle is if you want the golden controller. But its the same as if you were buying them seperate anyway.
Honestly, if activision wasn't going to go all out and make this game SPECIFICALLY for the purpose of POINT AND SHOOT on the wii, then they should've released a much better version on the Xbox 360 and PS3, or, since they are offering "classic control" option on the Wii version, they should've made a version for the 360 and PS3.
    Tsk tsk.
Does Nintendo still hold some kind of legal bind over the game GoldenEye?
Being that it was released only on N64?

FPS on my Wii goes together like peanut butter and anchovies.

Strategically, in a time where games are underperforming, sales-wise, isn't it a bad move to release your top-tier FPS on the Wii and NOT on either the PS3 or the 360, the console BUILT around FPS games??

70 bucks??? for what exactly? there had better be a lot more than one game and a 20 dollar stray painted controller

Hmm...That controller does not look that great, in my opinion anyway, although I guess it isn't a bad deal if you want it. I'm still waiting to see what happens with this game, they could make it as awesome as the original, or they could butcher it, but it is still too early to tell. :/

@Johny_47 I don't know why you got so many thumbs down because this does not Iook like the classic controller, not that I care but it just seems people on gamespot are heavily misinformed. All you gotta do is google "n64 controller" to see.

This game looks like a mediocre agent under fire and Nightfire clone with the ability to aim down the sights. I doubt the campaign will be as epic and long as the original. Probably a brief but heavily scripted and flashy campaign like the last few bond games. It looks like the bloodstains that show up on enemies/friends bodies after dumping clips into them has been censored for the remake too. Thank you for Fing over the fans Nintendo. A remake of goldeneye should of been left to RARE. At least we still have Perfect Dark....though I like goldeneye slightly better but it looks as if goldeneye has been murdered.

It's funny how the guy in the video remembers being able to unlock Sean Connery in the original. I wonder if he also remembers being able to jump into the hot tub in E Honda's stage in Street Fighter 2.

  • Johny_47

This isn't a 'classic' controller, the classic goldeneye controller(for the good old Nintendo 64) had 3 'holding things' coming down(where you hold onto =/) and one analog stick on the middle one, they were fun times.

I think Wii developers should stop wasting time with all these kids games and really make an iconic game like Goldeneye was, VARIETY is the 'spice' of life =)

If you're going to make a "classic controller" why not make it similar to the controller used for the real "classic" Goldeneye? With c-buttons and all. For us old school fans? Please?

We have Perfect Dark HD...the fact that they actually made this game with Golden Eye as a predecessor is going to heighten everyones expectations. I am not saying this game will be bad, I am just saying it will not live up to that much hype. I can see it now: Gamespot gives GoldenEye a 7.5; "Not as memorable as the original, but does a decent job at entertaining fans for a while."

Is Goldeneye 007 for the wii a direct sequel or a reimagining of the original. This could be a great great if the multiplayer catches on. Nintendo could be more inspired to do more types of games such as this. I kinda like the Gold Classic controller. I have still yet to own Nintendo's 5th console if Goldeneye remake works well. I would buy a Nintendo wii. I loved the original on the Nintendo 64.

  • Talldude80

    Posted Aug 11, 2010 5:19 pm GMT

@ lamprey263, that's because it's a Wii Classic controller PRO thats painted gold. not the standard classic controller. on amazon you'll notice the controller costs $19, so $69 for the game and the controller is not a good deal, its just a bundle (but you get a gold controller instead of a white one)

thorughfire how in the hell do you blame Nintendo for ruining this classic shooter? For one Nintendo isn't making the new Goldeneye, and two if anyone can have a remake of this classic on their console it would be Nintendo since it originated on their console. Plus the game actually looks pretty great so far. Where is your logic???

I will probably go ahead and buy this bundle since its no more expensive then the game and a standard classic controller pro combined anyway. But I am all about the pointer controls so this golden controller will not be used for Goldeneye.

Nintendo should have remade the N64 controller to work with the Gamecube if they really wanted to be retro.
