Earthworm Jim HD inches to PSN

Gameloft bringing updated version of Shiny's classic action platformer to Sony's online store August 3 for $10.

In June, Gameloft updated Shiny Entertainment's 16-bit classic Earthworm Jim for the high-definition era, releasing the game on Xbox Live Arcade. Now, PlayStation 3 gamers will have the same opportunity to hop into the anthropomorphic annelid's supersuit, as Gameloft said today that Earthworm Jim HD will arrive on the PlayStation Network for $10 on August 3.

Earthworm Jim HD is essentially a reimagining of the side-scrolling action platformer's original 1994 release on the Sega Genesis. It follows the mutated worm through more than a dozen bizarre levels on a quest to save a princess, defeating the nefarious Psy-Crow in the process.

Jim finds creative ways to solve unusual problems.

However, Gameloft has provided the game with an HD overhaul to sharpen up Earthworm Jim's graphics. Additionally, the French game company has built three new custom levels that carry on the original's off-kilter aesthetic. Earthworm Jim HD also features co-op play for up to four gamers in both online and offline modes.

    That's what I'm talking about, bring back the best of the 16 bit era with spruced up graphics. I'd buy that for $10.

    they should re-make my favourite snes game, Rock n Roll Racing, now that would be sick to play online

    Already had this game on XBLA so no buy for me, now if only Rocket Knight Adventure got this same graphical remake treatment unlike the other way.

    As amazing as the original was, I'm always leery when Gameloft touches anything. However, I'm probably too focused on their history of knock-offs to give them credit for a proper revival.

    Hmm... I think a completely new EWJ game in "2D", ala Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in order! And while we're at it, a new Donkey Kong Country!

    I really like how they are taking these old games and keeping the exact same, but with better graphics. They're doing that also with Monkey Island. Now, squareenix, this is what we fans have been asking you to do with FF7 for years. Make it exactly the same, only with better graphics, thats all you have to do. Stop with these awful linear RPG's (cough cough FF13), and remake the games that truly deserved praise. Its FF7, it obviously will sell very well.

    Played on X360. Nothing so special. But I'm not a Jim fan even in those past days. Played it until the end on MegaDrive2 and GB. The game is OK, but not the great for me. I'm dreaming about Pokemon games, Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario Bros. remastered in HD, but that's Nintendo. It's a pity( Better make Rock 'N Roll Racing in HD! )) And Contra) And Metal Slug series) and Darkwing Duck. Thanks for reading)

    Earthworm Jim!!! Brings back so many good memories from the Mega Drive days!!! Just need to bring out a HD remake of Flashback and I will be a very happy Panda!!! :0)

    Awesome! I wish they would release every SNES and Sega Genesis game in HD. That would incredible. We desperately need the Donkey Kong Country series and Earthbound in HD!!!
