Ghost Recon: Predator stalking ESRB

Ratings board's online database lists third-person PSP installment in Ubisoft's near-future military shooter with T rating.

It took a year for Ubisoft to nail down details about its latest Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon installment, confirming in February that the game would bear the subheader Future Soldier. That left a loose end, however, as it did not account for Ghost Recon: Predator, a hypothesized name for the tech-savvy shooter that was first floated by the Australian Classification Board.

Now, it appears clarity for that question has arrived courtesy of the Australian service's US equivalent, the Entertainment Software Rating Board. According to a listing in the ESRB's online database, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Predator will arrive for the PSP bearing a T for Teen rating. As could be expected of a modern-day military shooter, Predator carries content descriptors for blood, language, and violence.

The ESRB's listing also offered a number of top-level details for Predator. The game will be situated in the third-person shooter genre, with players working their way through enemy compounds as part of an elite squad of soldiers. True to the series, the goal will be to eliminate a variety of enemy threats using weaponry that includes machine guns and grenades.

It is unclear if Ghost Recon: Predator bears any relation to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. As part of a conference call announcing that game, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot indicated that Future Soldier would arrive for the PSP in addition to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, and PC.

Ubisoft has a history of releasing one-offs for its popular franchises on handheld platforms. Most notably, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines for the PSP made its way to retail alongside the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Assassin's Creed II in November and featured an original story. The publisher also released Assassin's Creed II: Discovery for the DS at that time.

Ubisoft had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

We need Assassin's Creed, and Ghost Recon on 3DS not DS/DSi. If those games were launch titles for 3DS I think everybody would be up for a 3DS. I know I already am. Getting mario Kart 3DS, and Metroid 3DS on day one (Though we know next to nothing about the latter title and way more about the former) I also want to see COD, and James Bond, as well as my personal fav new game line Transformers!

Without those I would be a board gamer they don't all have to be there at launch but if that was year 2 of 3DS games with the games from theird party developers already annouced being year 1 I would be a vary happy 3DS owner.

Don't knock portables, after Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker my faith in my PSP has never been stronger (though i still kind of hope the 3DS pushes Sony to make a PSP2 that has two sticks... and dare I hope, Playstation Network downloadable PS2 games?)

@Dynamo11 : that may be true, but Future Soldier is a name of an actual program the US Army employs.

Sure is funny how much money Ubisoft rakes in for military style games when their new DRM has made it impossible for thousands of real soldiers to enjoy their games while serving our country.

With this it's possible the PSP will have 2 games. The first of course is the MGS game.

Ubisoft has a pretty outstanding internally-developed engine for the PSP at this point, among the best. Only Kojima's portable team pushes the hardware further.

Chances are Future Soldier and Predator will bare a lot in common but have enough changes to make those who own it think its a different game.
