Plants vs. Zombies XBLA priced and dated

$15 Xbox Live Arcade version hitting "early September" with two new multiplayer modes, 12 achievements, and 21 minigames unique to the console version; boxed edition arriving at retail with Peggle and Zuma this fall for $19.99.

Call of Duty: World at War has a zombie mode, as does upcoming content for Red Dead Redemption. However, the undead in those titles don't munch the life out of plants as they do in PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies. The tower defense game that debuted on the PC and Mac last year will make its way to the XBLA in September the publisher said today.

The game's full achievement list leaked this weekend, but today, the game's publisher provided official, substantiated details on the game, including the aforesaid release window, as well as its price and gameplay details.

Plants vs. Zombies for XBLA will cost gamers 1,200 MS points, or $15, and will feature two new multiplayer modes, 12 achievements, and 21 minigames unique to the console version. The two new multiplayer modes are co-op and Versus mode, which were outed this weekend.

Additionally, the title will feature a new way for friends to track and share progress with each other over Xbox Live. The new social connectivity measures come in the form of customizable houses, which players can visit.

PopCap also today sent word it plans to release the game, in two forms, at retail later this fall. Plants vs. Zombies, with bundled copies of Peggle and Zuma, will arrive on a disc at retail, alongside a new boxed "Game of the Year" edition of the PC/Mac original. Both will arrive "this fall," bearing a $19.99 price tag.

Why is everyone complaining about the price? 'Ooohhh I can get it on Steam for $10.' Good for you. Does that include 21 extra minigames, verses and co-op multiplayer? didn't think so. $15

Just wondering if they are going to release a add-on for multiplayer on the PC. I got it for my wife, and even I enjoy playing it. I would love a co-op mode so we can vanquish the evil zombie hordes together. Now that's romance!!!! :-)

Wow, the console versions do get some extra content and features (albeit for additional pricing, of course) - especially that multiplayer mode. I do hope the Steamworks-powered version gets an update soon.

Not really interested, I like the Tower Defense game style bit i'm not dropping 1200 points into it just to play something for a week or less before i end up moving on. just about every Live Arcade title I've gotten I stop playing after a maximum of 2 weeks. Besides I'm waiting for Mafia II to come out.....

400 Points ($5) is what I was more than happy to pay for Afterburner: Climax and Megaman 10 recently on the Deal of the Week on Xbox Live.

If an online game is $10, it better be a great one such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night with high-definition graphics and remixed 5.1 sound. I didn't mind paying $10 when I bought that legendary game.

And I didn't mind paying $10 for Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition.

I didn't mind paying $15 for the awesome Super Street Fighter 2 HD game, because it had the best 2D graphics we had ever seen and was fully optimized for high-definition.

But I did have a problem paying $15 for Marvel vs Capcom 2, since it was not optimized for HD the way that Super Street Fighter 2 HD was. Marvel vs Capcom 2 had the same type of graphics that Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition did. Therefore, I thought Marvel vs Capcom 2 should have cost only $10 -- the same price as Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition. I waited until Marvel vs Capcom 2 was on Deal of the Week on Xbox Live for only $5.

The prices for online games are starting to get really insane for games that suck. For example, who in their right mind would want to pay $10 for the awful Leisure Suit Larry.

@Damned Apples - this is not a 'browser game', nor is it free on the PC, unless you're pirating it. And some people are willing to spend a bit more cuz they prefer to play games on their consoles, in their living room with friends, on a big-screen TV, and with a good surround system. It makes the experience more enjoyable, so while I can get the game cheaper on a different platform, its *worth* an extra $5 to $10 to play it how I prefer to play it. Its crazy that some of you dont seem to understand this kind of thing.

what with pretty much EVERY xbox live arcade game being 1200 points now?? Remember when games would come out for *gasp* 400 microsoft points?? It just sucks, cause in canada you get 1400 msp for $20 + tax, $22.40 roughly. so that's almost 20$ for an arcade game.. granted some are easily worth that, 90% of all the arcade games priced at 1200msp are not worth that.

over 72.109287465% of stats are made up...

After watching the gameplay video this seems like it would be fun to play but the 3game disc sounds like a much better deal than the XBLA ( although I do already own Peggle & Zuma XD)

Or you can buy the $3 iTouch ('scuse the awkward name) version or play the free PC Version. I don't care if the game shoots waffles, I'm not forking over $15 for a browser game while the web version still exists.

Hey, I wonder when they will decide to make a real sequel to Peggle instead of wasting their time with this game, which in my oipinion, is generic, slow, repetitive, and boring.

Good to see they added some competitive stuff to sweeten the deal. Hopefully Plants vs. Zombies 2 will be announced soon as well!

Wow, 21 new mini games, I hope they update the pc version ^^ Like Samox said, I wonder how the control are going to be for a gamepad. This game is mainly click and drag and the pc requirement are so low that anyone with a crappy 1998 computer can play this. Now if they could release plant vs zombie 2
