Oddworld set to be reinhabited
Just Add Water announces multiple projects set in the Oddworld universe for a variety of platforms.
Despite the fact that former developer Oddworld Inhabitants switched from making games to animated movies in 2005, it would seem that the beloved cult series will be making a comeback. A post appeared earlier today on the Web site of British developer Just Add Water and confirmed that Oddworld is working on bringing the franchise back.
Details were scarce, with the post detailing that the game has been in development for the past 12 months, starting off as the product of a meeting in June 2009. Just Add Water did say that it is planning "multiple projects, across multiple platforms." According to Just Add Water's Web site, the studio is a licensed developer for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Wii, and Xbox 360. The studio has been consulting with Oddworld Inhabitants about the project.
The post also linked to a new Twitter account for AbeMudokon, the protagonist from the first two games in the Oddworld franchise. So far, all of the tweets appear to be in character, with the poster responding in Abe's clipped speech pattern, as well as making reference to his frequent bowel movements.
The Oddworld series was first launched in 1997 and is best known for its juvenile sense of humour and platforming gameplay. Two games were released on the PlayStation, and in 2001, the franchise expanded to include Microsoft's Xbox console where it saw a further two titles released before the series went quiet.
