NBA Jam dunking Xbox 360, PS3 - Report

German ratings board reveals arcade basketball game won't be Wii-exclusive.

Electronic Arts is reaching into history this holiday, releasing the over-the-top hardwood NBA Jam for the Nintendo Wii. However, if a German software ratings board is to be believed, the slam-dunk-centric arcade game will also grace the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The news comes from listings posted on the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK), a self-regulating body that monitors the software industry in Germany. The listings pin NBA Jam for release on high-def consoles but provide no further specifics on the topic.

Electronic Arts hasn't officially mentioned the title's existence for the Xbox 360 or PS3, and as of press time, EA has not responded to GameSpot's request for comment on the matter.

That said, the arrival of NBA Jam for the 360 and PS3 wouldn't be all too surprising. In February, an EA Canada software engineer listed "NBA Jam for Wii, Xbox 360, PS3" on her LinkedIn account. She then speedily removed the mention of Xbox 360 and PS3 from the list.

NBA Jam is currently in development at EA Canada and is slated for an October 5 release for the Wii. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's E3 2010 floor check-in with EA Sports (embedded below) and a hands-on preview.

Although I am excited for this game, I am hoping it is not a full retail game. I can't see myself paying $60 for this, maybe $15.

a game like this, a throwback to old school gamin, should be multiplat...it was back then, and as big of a fan as i am off Wii, the game is more important then the system, and everyone should get to play this.

At last ... I can't believed if EA only make a widely known franchise only for one console ... but know we know their real intention ... well, its not that surprising though ...

This looks like it will bring back the good old days of the arcade. Putting in codes for the secret players and mascots and looking cool, lol. Hopefully it will be as fun as it was back in the day.

NBA Jam's developer has been saying all along that the game will at some point be on all 3 consoles it's just they are focusing on Wii first. I think the game fits PS3 and XBOX 360 more than it does Wii but that's just me......

It's a bit too early to blindly believe this. The EA teams seemed pretty adamant, and one member disappointed, that it would be a Wii exclusive. While it may be entirely possible that they will port the Wii version over later on, I'm putting my money on a Xbox Live/PSN release of the original NBA Jam.

What's with all the thumbs down to people wanting arcade ports? Usually remakes end up disappointing fans anyway. Just do a straight port and make everyone happy.

  • Cwagmire21

    Posted Jul 7, 2010 2:37 pm GMT

@AJC3317 I'm wondering the same thing. When I first heard this I thought it was going to be an arcade port. Now I'm not as excited anymore.

If this game is for the 360 and ps3 as well, then I'm not getting the game. I'm afraid that they will act lazy with the Wii version. If this game is a Wii exclusive, then I will change my mind.

I hope it comes to XBLA or PSN. It'd make a perfect downloadable game for $15. Can't wait!
