Third parties prepping dozens for 3DS

E3 2010: Nintendo's new depth-of-field portable gets third-party lineup featuring Metal Gear Solid, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Pro Evolution Soccer, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil, Ninja Gaiden, and more.

LOS ANGELES--Nintendo officially unveiled and detailed its newest portable gaming device this morning at the Nokia Theater and laid out a first-party software road map. In addition, over a dozen major franchises in development for the machine were announced. Electronic Arts has seen success from The Sims 3 for the PC and Mac since it launched in June 2009 and plans to expand to consoles in October. The brand will continue to grow, as EA today announced The Sims 3 for the 3DS to debut sometime in 2011. Also, EA will release 3DS versions of FIFA and Madden.

Tecmo Koei will bring some of its popular franchises to the 3DS, including 3D revisions of Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, Samurai Warriors, and Dynasty Warriors. Tecmo did not provide examples of how each title will make use of the system's technology, only confirming their existence and promising more details "at a later date."

Square Enix today confirmed that it will release 3D versions of its popular Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts series. Additionally, the publisher said a racing game, tentatively dubbed Chocobo Racing 3D, has been given the green flag for launch on the 3DS.

Shifting to Konami, the publisher today promised 3DS releases of Pro Evolution Soccer, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater "The Naked Sample," Contra, Frogger, and Baseball (working title). Konami provided nothing beyond the game's existence and said it will unveil details at a later date.

Additional third-party 3DS game announcements today included Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil Revelations from Capcom, DJ Hero 3D from Activision, Saints Row: Drive By from THQ, a Batman game from Warner Bros., and unnamed titles from Harmonix, Take-Two, Atlus, AQ Interactive, Disney Interactive Studios, Hudson Soft, Majesco, Marvelous Entertainment, Rocket, Sega, and Takara Tommy.

Q4 stretches into next year all the way into march.... sooo not looking too good, second, whitewarrior75, have you even playes a portable device in the last 2 years? sony has released the psp go, and nintendo released the Dsi XL.... im gonna take a wild guess and say sony is going for "great" and more "portable" while nintendo is going "bigger" and "greater"... call me crazy, but i think nintendo has the bigger screens.... oh well, what do i know right?

Heh violentmonkey what about those tiny screens, Come on I don't care for either platform but you have too admit the PSP screens are a lot bigger. The PSP screen is almost the size of both screens for the 3DS combined.

Well I didn't see any of the release dates do i just made a prediction off the top of my head heh. Nintendo has announced that it will release a 3D console with 3D and upgraded graphics. But that will not be until 30% of households own a 3D TV otherwise they will lose money. Still it is a great idea and its a long way away from good old Tetris by now!

@ElderonWise i agree that the 3DS would be around $150 (not sure about the other currency) because its not as big as the wii but than again the tech in 3DS surpasses wii by two yrs or three. Oh heres a fun fact for game spot you should expect that every next E3 will be better than the last. Technology today is growing expentially. So dont be surprised if they release a virtual reality consule know as Vii i would have to say that it will release this winter absolutely two reasons why. 1) This would be a great buisness move for nintendo to make some great dough be stupid if it were after christmas people wont be convinced enough to buy it. 2) if u go to the Kid Icarus: Uprising here at gamespot u would notice that release is Q4 2010 (what is Q4?) so if KIU comes out winter but 3DS comes out spring not really smart eh?!

At a guess I would say the 3DS will be around $150 or £120 or so. Release date? At a guess either Winter 2010 to Spring 2011. Only time will tell though.

...my jaw dropped when I saw the early titles for the 3DS, It cracked when I've saw Metal Gear Solid on it, and required jaw repairing after I've saw Ocarina of Time being remade to the 3DS. That's Super Special Awesomeness!

Damn, the 3DS isn't even out yet and it already feels like a must-buy. Adding the soild launch library, backwards compatibility, and all the features from the DSi and that had my interest drooling.

I walked in to a gamespot today and asked if they have a release date for the 3DS and the store cleric called it a DS and said its a DS because it plays DS games. I pointed out you wont be able to play 3DS games on a DS and she said "but is it going to sale". Considering all the reasons 3DS will probably succeed she may have made the biggest fanboy comment ever.

personally i really didn't think nintendo handhelds needed graphic power to take on the compatition, it always held more of it's own, but now like they say, overkill is underated

While I thought that Sony did a good job of showing off new stuff for the PS3, they failed at showing off the PSP. Nintendo shows off an awesome new handheld, and Sony shows us a new ad campaign. The only thing from the PSP section that got me excited was the announcement of Patapon 3, but they didn't even tallk about that!

I love the 3DS. 3D without glasses is an awesome idea. They did make one mistake with it though: They put the analog stick on the same side as the D-pad. It annoyed me when the PSP did that, and it annoys me that Nintendo chose to place it there.

    @Leu-kun

I'm sure there's a reason for "The Naked Sample" part of the title.

Anyways I'm pretty excited for the 3DS. One thing though is that it started the "64" naming thing again. Everything has the "3D" edition, kind of like the games for Nintendo 64 back then..

Lol, now third parties can put down everything they gave to PSP to 3DS. Graphics are no longer an issue. If it is for you then one you're a fanboy and two you need to stop being so delusional and get your mind straight.
