Third parties prepping dozens for 3DS
E3 2010: Nintendo's new depth-of-field portable gets third-party lineup featuring Metal Gear Solid, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Pro Evolution Soccer, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil, Ninja Gaiden, and more.
LOS ANGELES--Nintendo officially unveiled and detailed its newest portable gaming device this morning at the Nokia Theater and laid out a first-party software road map. In addition, over a dozen major franchises in development for the machine were announced. Electronic Arts has seen success from The Sims 3 for the PC and Mac since it launched in June 2009 and plans to expand to consoles in October. The brand will continue to grow, as EA today announced The Sims 3 for the 3DS to debut sometime in 2011. Also, EA will release 3DS versions of FIFA and Madden.
Tecmo Koei will bring some of its popular franchises to the 3DS, including 3D revisions of Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, Samurai Warriors, and Dynasty Warriors. Tecmo did not provide examples of how each title will make use of the system's technology, only confirming their existence and promising more details "at a later date."Square Enix today confirmed that it will release 3D versions of its popular Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts series. Additionally, the publisher said a racing game, tentatively dubbed Chocobo Racing 3D, has been given the green flag for launch on the 3DS.
Shifting to Konami, the publisher today promised 3DS releases of Pro Evolution Soccer, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater "The Naked Sample," Contra, Frogger, and Baseball (working title). Konami provided nothing beyond the game's existence and said it will unveil details at a later date.
Additional third-party 3DS game announcements today included Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition and Resident Evil Revelations from Capcom, DJ Hero 3D from Activision, Saints Row: Drive By from THQ, a Batman game from Warner Bros., and unnamed titles from Harmonix, Take-Two, Atlus, AQ Interactive, Disney Interactive Studios, Hudson Soft, Majesco, Marvelous Entertainment, Rocket, Sega, and Takara Tommy.
