Infamous' strong commercial and critical performance appeared to be enough to assume that Sony would give Sucker Punch a chance to make good on the game's cliff-hanger ending with a sequel. That speculation was lent weight in April, when the publisher registered the telling URL Infamous2TheGame.com, a likely destination for new information on the anticipated open-world action adventure.

Surmise no longer, as the July cover issue of GameStop-owned Game Informer magazine has confirmed that Sucker Punch is at work on Infamous 2 for the PlayStation 3.

Though the magazine offered few specifics on what gamers can expect from the Sly Cooper developer's latest effort, it did offer a few generalizations. Hero (or antihero) Cole MacGrath has apparently been given a makeover, and Infamous 2 will also feature a new city where gamers can wield original powers against a new nemesis. Sony will likely have additional details about the game at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, which kicks off June 14.

The original Infamous told the story of bike messenger Cole MacGrath, who, after a massive explosion, wakes up with electricity-based superpowers. In the game, players make MacGrath either a savior or a scourge as he attempts to break a government-imposed quarantine of his city. Shortly after the game's release, reports emerged that Sony Pictures had entered negotiations with The Longest Yard screenwriter Sheldon Turner to adapt the game for the silver screen.

    Its my favorite PS3 exclusive although I have not played MGS4.

    @x-2tha-z its fair enough to share your opinion on a game but not to say it was all bad when it clearly wasn't and I am no fanboy I would gladly defend infamous if it was on 360 and i would also gladly own a 360. I think it is a great platform but ps3 is much more suited to my needs

    @SIR-RAMBO-ROCKS I know what you mean but you sometimes have to talk like a fanboy to beat a fanboy but ah I have killzone and even just the aust servers are flooded with mostly full 32 player matches

    @Skull-Fire yeah! I sure do, and that means I also laugh at nearly everything else this generation so please don't take it to heart!

    It's nice to feel like you're being treated to games such as inFamous coming out with a sequel so very soon, but in the end it's really all about making more $$$

    @PUREPL7YA You laugh at games with 'a 1 - 2 year lifespan'? On average, it takes maybe a few days or weeks to beat inFamous, depending on how much time you have. Sure, it has enough replay value to be played through twice but after a year or 2, there is nothing wrong with making a sequel. Its ridiculous to say otherwise. If a game is successful enough and they can make a worthy sequel, theres no reason not to.

    I had three xbox consoles, two got RROD and one got banned I bought Halo and played it for exactly 3 minutes and threw the game away "it was a backup CD"... I felt like a bought a Wii game on a next gen console... never really liked it

    i loved infamous and i can't wait this new one has to offer, though i don't really like Cole's new looks, he looks more like something they pulled from champions online creation or something

    Dont be so quick to judge. The GameInformer cover of Cole is "artwork" not a representation of in-game character model. Check out the GI scans of in-game footage screenshots. Cole looks nothing like the artwork on the GI cover. Huge sigh of relief! But he also looks nothing like Cole in the first inFamous. Weird...

    One of those franchises that remembers fun gameplay is the key to success. Can't wait for the sequel. I wish marvel and dc would borrow this engine for their superhero titles.

    I would perfer a new console for this game. I would want sucker puch to work on new IP. There are plenty of sequales too many infact. I am looking foward to some games that I have not gotten to yet and some new games that are comming out.

    Um... I think Cole looks pretty hot myself. I loved the first one, looking forward to number 2. Hopefully they improve on some things though.

    Wow. New Cole looks absolutely horrible. I loved the first game, even though there were a lot of flaws, and I hope Infamous 2 fixes them, but the original Cole was fine. This new one looks like he crawled out of a Twilight book.

    I own all current gen consoles, except for the DS, and I own a powerful gaming PC. I'm no fanboy. I'm just being honest. That's the way I felt about inFamous.

    And I thought Halo 3 was better than Killzone 2. Halo 3 has better campaign and online.

    he looks like he put on some weight...also gonna miss the badass look he had. now i think he will still look 'heroic' even if i want him to be evil

    Isn't this just an starting artwork? He doesn't have to look like that in the finall game. BTW it says on homepage-most popular, that InFamous is a puzzle game xD.

    This looks really bad... Sony is taking an HUGE risk by changing Cole. The fans may not like. My hopes for this one is that Infamous 2 becomes an awesome evolution of infamous, something like Uncharted1/2. And I want to play online...

    Not really feelin the "new" look of cole. for one he looks younger, and more innocent. which makes ZERO sense. Also since its a sequel, he should have most of his powers off the rip. Plz dont act like the powers are new to us in this one and dont do something lame like have a villain that can drain you of your powers.

    This game is a PS3 exclusive so those of you hoping for a 360 version are going to have to get a PS3 or find a friend that has one.

    I've been looking forward to the sequel since i finished the first one !

    but, Cole's new look kinda looks like a 'Drake' (from uncharted) knock off .. his original look was just fine -_-
