Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock shredding 90+ tracks, new guitar

Black Sabbath, Queen, ZZ Top, more lead set list for Activision, Neversoft's rock-heavy rhythm game, due Sept. on 360, PS3, Wii.

Word on Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock has been dribbling out since the beginning of last week, when a listing for the game was spotted in online retailers' databases. Activision, Neversoft, and Vicarious Visions' latest rhythm rocker subsequently received a formal reveal in Nintendo Power magazine. And just in case that wasn't official enough, Activision today announced Warriors of Rock will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii this September.

In terms of new information, Activision offered a first glimpse at the game's on-disc tracklist. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will include more than 90 tracks on disc, and gamers can also download some 500 songs from the Guitar Hero Music Library. Of note, Warriors of Rock features an original track from Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, titled "Sudden Death."

Other rock greats slated to appear include Black Sabbath, Queen, Def Leppard, The Rolling Stones, and ZZ Top, and Warriors of Rock will include a mix of live and studio recordings. A full list of tracks thus far announced for the game can be found below.

Additionally, Activision said today that Warriors of Rock will ship with a new guitar controller inspired by the game's art style and "specifically made for shredding." The publisher offered no additional details (or images) of the new peripheral.

As previously detailed by Nintendo Power, Neversoft will be developing the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of the game, with Vicarious Visions taking its cues from the developer for the Wii installment. Hard rock will be the emphasis of this year's title--one of only two rhythm games from Activision this year--and the studio has underlined this point by signing on Kiss frontman Gene Simmons to serve as narrator for the game's story mode.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock partial set list:
AFI - "Dancing Through Sunday"

When I read it includes Black Sabbath, I was like "well, maybe I should try some rock-heavy rhythm game at last". Then I found out they have "Children of the grave" only?!?!
Unless it will have Sweat leaf, Hole in the sky, Megalomania, Wheels of confusion, Hand of doom or at least Iron man it's not worth it.

Now I have to listen to "Past lives" CD 2 to calm myself (got really frustrated while writing this).

@SlowMotionKarma: I feel much more like playing music when i play guitar hero. OK- some songs are a bit overcharted, with piano parts and stuff. But at least they're not undercharted like very many of the rock band songs. PLUS- i like the guitar hero controllers much better than the rock band ones....

@ Wazzup619 Sadly, that is never gonna happen. Jimmy Page very rarely gives out permission for Led Zep songs to be used and he said that he thought it ridiculous that people would think to play Bonzo's drum parts on a plastic kit. I actually agree with him on that, I've been learning to play "Good Times, Bad Times" and think it would be an insult to put that masterful drum beat onto a plastic gaming peripheral

Why Bohemian Rhapsody? Are they gonna make people play the Piano part on Guitar, like they've done in countless other songs? If you're gonna put a Queen song on put on "I Want It All" which is actually a Guitar driven track

    Where's "Dimebag"? Where's "Page"? Where's "McCready"?
I think Activision needs to work on their titles a bit more...
I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until the rest is released though.

Nice to see Bohemian Rhapsody finally, though there isn't a whole lot of guitar in it at all. Maybe they'll cheat, using the guitar for keyboard parts, like they did for Queen's Somebody to Love in RB DLC.

Just saw pictures of the new controllers, look kinda cool and have exchangeable bodies instead of faceplates. But they no longer have the slide bar - taking a step backward from previous models. And if the neck is as thick as they have been in the past, I will definitely pass on them and use my Rock Band guitars instead or buy one of the Logitech ones.

    @Warful
The Dave Matthews Band? In Guitar Hero? I would have thought the Silversun Pickups were bad enough, but geez...

  • Warful

    Posted Jun 7, 2010 4:05 am GMT

Great list so far, however poor choice considering the Rammstein song choice, along with Chemical Warfare from Slayer. However KISS, Queen and ZZ Top are spot on. 3 great songs from 3 great artists imo.

Something however, that's always been a lil' wish of mine, is bring in a song from Dave Matthews Band. But we'll see... Perhaps in Guitar Hero 24? xD.

I'm not sure we need another new guitar, I think they are just stirring up some fuzz about it, to be able to sell the guitar bundle for a larger profit, as they have done before.

    Anywho, looking forward!

why do they keep making new games. a new guitar hero comes out ever half a year. make one game and just add new songs to it, stop ripping people off.

you could also pick up a real guitar? cheaper in the long run lol

What's that Activision? Your attempt to "one-up" Rock Band with a "touch-sensitive" guitar failed miserably and no one liked it? So you're going to come up with another design? I'm sure it will work out...
What Activision/Neversoft NEEDS for Guitar Hero is people that actually get the charts to feel like the song. I played GH5 and the key structure felt way off. They added in keys just to make the game harder. I didn't feel like I was playing the songs, just playing a rhythm game with the song in the background. THAT'S why Rock Band is beating you, because while their songs may be "easier" they are much more "accurate". We play these games to feel like we're playing the songs we love. That's the gimmick. Get it right.

what they need to bring back is rhythm and lead guitar selection. depending on the track. make it a 5 piece band.

eff the rest of the game, I'm just going to sing that

  • wiifan001

    Posted Jun 6, 2010 8:48 pm GMT

That setlist has already beaten the entire setlist from Guitar Hero 5.
If the rest of the 90+ setlist is as this consistent as these 24 songs, I'm hands down sold.

I really wish that I could see a Guitar Hero release that had well known songs and not artist song's that the majority of people have never heard of. Like St3yr said, why that particular slayer track out of all of their single's/albums.

I understand the more popular the track, the more expensive it is to involve it in the game. In the early going at the start of the Guitar Hero series I would understand, but Guitar Hero is a global phenomenon now and has been for a few years, so why all these sub-par songs from these artists (with the exception of Bohemian Rhapsody, Bodies (extremely overplayed but still) and Pour Some Sugar on Me)

Edit: Just to say what a sad choice of a Rammstein song, there are so many other songs from them that could've been given a Guitar Hero debut. I'm not a Du Hast fan so I wasn't impressed in that particular song in GH5.
