James Bond driving game's cover blown - Retail Radar

British megastore HMV lists new racing game "James Bond: Bloodstone" as coming soon; is it Bizarre Creations' long-rumored 007 project?

In February 2009, an Activision Blizzard earnings report revealed that the next James Bond game from the Quantum of Solace publisher wouldn't be released until 2010. According to leaks from a closed-door event in 2008, it will be an original, vehicle-focused game from Bizarre Creations, the studio behind next month's combat racer Blur.

Now, it appears that British megastore HMV has unmasked the title of Bizarre Creations' 007 outing. Its online store is listing product pages for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii versions of "James Bond: Bloodstone." Each is tagged with the words "driving racing games coming soon" and listed in the "driving racing" category. The lists also display the James Bond films' distinctive "007" logo, with the "7" being a gun.

Though Activision declined to comment on the product listing, James Bond: Bloodstone is as good a title as any, since there is no official 007 film this year. That frees up Bizarre Creations to give it an original moniker much like one of the best-reviewed James Bond games, Everything or Nothing. The 2004 PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance title was published and developed by Electronic Arts and also featured heavy driving and vehicle combat elements.

The apparent outing of James Bond: Bloodstone comes just days after James Bond fans were hit by discouraging news. Following the inability of the 007 films' financially plagued distributor MGM to find a buyer, the production company behind the movies, EON Productions, announced Monday that the next James Bond film had been put on indefinite hold. It had been slated to start shooting later this year with Daniel Craig reprising his role as the dapper secret agent hero and Oscar-winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) in the director's chair.

Do we have to see james bond and other charaters in a go-kart? If we do, god help us all.

@ crqous007 yes I dare to say it because the game is still fun and a lot better than the stuff studios force feeds consumers nowadays. For every good shooter out now you can find a dozen that suck. So what if the depth of the game mechanics isn't on the same level as a Killzone 2 or a MW 2 it's still just as fun.

007 Racing is better than Bloodstone (planned title), even though 007 Racing was only released on the PlayStation. Other Bond games did feature racing, except the others didn't. They are all FPS.

Why did not EA include driving in Nightfire (PC version) back in 2003? Answer: Porting issues.

@Big_Dre_D dont you even dare say that i havent played 007. there are only 3 things that i like more than commander bond and thats south park, sex and the new york yankees. believe me i know everything there is to know about bond and that includes the severely dated goldeneye

  • Big_Dre_D

    Posted Apr 22, 2010 5:50 pm GMT

@crqos007 You obviously haven't played 007. Compared to many of today's shooters that game can hold its own and I still do play it from time to time. The bottom line is that Goldeneye isn't the most technical or pretiest shooter now a days, but its still more FUN than most the shooters on the market now and having FUN is the most important thing about a game.

another bond racing game, well this is gonna suck. i don't have good memories from the last one, not too mention activision is making it and i'm sure we all have fond memories of how they've been handling games (MW2 can go die). and will all of you cry babys quit comparing every game out ther to freaking goldeneye? the game came out in like 1996 and compared to today's standards it sucks royal ass!

    @Gelugon_baat

You know, there are James Bond games that never got movies. Just look at Nightfire, Agent Under Fire, and Everything or Nothing. This may as well be a Bond game that ends up like those, by not getting a movie with the same name.

Great, another generic Bond game that will fail massively. Newsflash: James Bond is FAR more than just vehicles. I don't see how this will work or how any good can come from this.

Fighting crime in a car? Thought that was Knight Rider's thing! Had only played a demo of THAT game when it came out..was cool for about 2 minutes while the theme music lasted, and then my frustration with the controls took over.

I don't see any James Bond driving game on that website. What are you guys smoking. Unless it was already removed. I did see something I knew nothing about. When was this game announced " Test Drive Unlimited 2" The first game located in Hawaii was incredible. One of my favorite games. I hope this is coming out this year.

"it will be an original, vehicle-focused game from Bizarre Creations"

You mean like 007 racing? It's been made before, not original. Unless it literally just fully focuses on racing. 007 racing wasn't really racing, it was just doing missions in a bond car. So if it's anything like 007 racing, then it's not original. But then again we shouldn't believe the crap that comes out of Activision's mouth anymore, telling us how MW 2 was going to rock and it sucked, and how they're saying everything with IW is just fine, despite losing the founders and lead designers and others who made the game what it is. Yea, I believe you Activision *sarcasm*

(I'm probably gonna get thumbs down from 13 year olds because I mentioned their holy grail of gaming MW2 and said it sucked)

I think it will be good. I liked the last one. I have high hopes with the new consoles and their capabilities to make this game fun and worth playing. Although, speaking of racing and shooting games... I would really like to hear about the next Twisted Metal

I really wish RARE was able to put Goldeneye on XBLA... *sigh* but we all know about that story. I'm not to thrilled about a Bond racing game, maybe because I'm never thrilled about any racing game. The only combat racing game I ever really enjoyed was Jak X combat racing for ps2. I don't know, this whole idea doesn't sound like it will succeed. :/

@NIght1107 I Completely agree with you. It is the graphics and controls that keep games like Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark 64 (frame problems galore) from being amazing today.

Bond is not all about driving, heck he is only a bit about driving. Not impressed with the approach so far. I really don't get what happened, EA was on the right track by making Agent Under Fire (which was decent), then Night Fire (which was pretty good), and then they messed it up with Everything or Nothing (which was just completely unrelated to bond game style).

GoldenEye 007 for N64 was the BEST shooter of its time. And still one of the best ever party games. I would pay anything for a full graphical overhaul and online multiplayer. Few campaigns lasted as long as GoldenEye's did. It was an incredible game. Aside from graphics and controls(needs dual analog sticks), I wouldn't change a single thing about it.
