Capcom bags Monster Hunter Freedom 3

Japanese publisher confirms fourth PSP release in cooperative action role-playing game franchise to see debut by end of the year; new regions, monsters among planned changes.

This year is shaping up to be a big one for Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise. The series is making its North American Wii debut with Monster Hunter Tri on April 20 and is expanding to the Japanese Xbox 360 this summer with Monster Hunter Frontier.

While Capcom is looking to bring the series to new platforms, the publisher today revealed that it's not yet done with its old (monster) hunting grounds. Capcom of Japan today announced that Monster Hunter Freedom 3 will see release "at the end of 2010." The publisher said it will be adding new enemies and regions to the game, as well as tweaking the series' Felyne AI comrade system.

Despite the name, Monster Hunter Freedom 3 will actually be the fourth installment of the game to see release on the PSP. In addition to the first two Monster Hunter Freedom games, Capcom created Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for the PSP. Released in March 2008, Unite went on to sell 3.5 million copies in Japan alone, making it the first PSP game to have done so, according to Capcom.

I have MHFU. MHF3 is different than the last three MH games for the PSP, which is a welcome change. But the game-play is still the same. New village, brand new monsters, new weapons and armor, new locations; it's a portable MH Tri.

I completely agree, it is certainly pretty easy to put an infrastructure mode in this game if Capcom wanted to. I only got one hunting partner, and even though we pretty much capable of finishing everyquest, it is still an annoyance of how limited the multiplayer mode is. The game given us a cat for every unfortunate single player, and the only thing the cat good at is being a distraction for the monster, and that's it

This is a game for real gamers, casuals-cheaters and/or crybabies need not apply

MH is not a game, is THE game

Heres the link its actually pretty cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIMtxHaoKFQ
It does show a lot of grounded monsters from 3, but it also shows a tigrex and nargacuga. however monster hunter wikia quotes that it will only have some of the ones from 3, and some of the older ones, plus new monsters. plus from the video a few of the areas are new, including the town

    @Armony
Not true, ive seen the trailer, they only have a few of the new things are in here, but so are the old stuff. it wont be radically new. my forecast? just a longer version of #2, but you cant port your character this time

@StJimmy I highly agree with you!

Sick of just being recommended Ad-Hoc Party all the time, I've already had trouble even getting into a lobby because I get kicked out of one after 5 seconds. Plus am I the only one who uses the PS3's wireless? Because the program only supports wired connections.

So Capcom please put Infrastructure in this time!

Dude! 30 mins is not long enough.. hell i thought the same as you at the start, now i cant get enough of it! I HAVE to play one mission per day or else i get withdrawel symptoms..

@yearof3000 Adhoc Party only works through a wired connection, so for some people this will not help.

Remember "infrastructure" Capcom? Use it. Like 1 in 1000 people actually know someone else with a PSP AND the same game as them for Ad Hoc...

@Dualmask: This game will be based on Tri, not the previous PSP games, so the vast majority of monsters and locations will be all new, as well as the new weapons. So I don't see the problem.

@Grooveless: Pretty obvious why they removed underwater combat, the PSP controls just aren't cut out for it.

Just in time, me and my mates are almost done with MHFU.
Lucky for Sony they're still gonna get more juice outta the PSP.
These are what I want to see in the new game:
    1. More liberal trading system - limiting trades to rarity 3 items sucked bigtime
    2. I know it's proly not possible but more players for co-op please.
    3. Underwater play was removed! WHY!?!

    4. Longer mission times! heehee

I loved the first two games, but unless the changes are radical in scope in some way, I see no more need for Monster Hunter on PSP. The first game was big enough, the second was nearly perfect. I haven't played Unite, and I'm interested, but not enough to pay for what's essentially an upgrade of MHF2. I'm just not that diehard a fan.

Those who haven't played a PSP MH game are in for a treat though.

Are we able to transfer our data on MHFU over to this game?

  • Kleeyook

    Posted Mar 16, 2010 1:32 pm GMT

I still haven' touched my MHFU yet.
And I think we no more need MH on PSP. CAPCOM should just wait for the next generation, or make it for PS3.
