Codemasters lines up F1 2010 for September start

First PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 outing for the UK publisher's take on the pinnacle of motorsport confirmed for an autumn release.

While Formula One fans don't have long to wait until the cars roll onto the grid for the first race of the 2010 season in Bahrain, they will have a little longer to wait for the championship's official game. Today, Codemasters confirmed that the 2010 iteration of its nascent Formula One franchise will arrive for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in September. This marks the first outing for the publisher's F1 games on high-definition platforms after the commercial success of the PSP and Wii F1 2009 games last year.

F1 2010 is based on the publisher's Ego engine, which was also behind previous hit racing games Race Driver: Grid and Colin McRae Dirt 2, and is being developed at Codemasters Studios Birmingham. It will be the first official Formula One game on the PC platform for eight years and the first-ever official F1 game to appear on the Xbox 360.

The game will feature all the drivers, teams, cars and tracks from the 2010 Formula One season, re-created with the help of "unprecedented access to Formula One teams and drivers." The Ego engine has been further developed for F1 2010, according to the publisher, "to accurately re-create the unique aerodynamics and handling" of Formula One cars.

F1 2010 will feature a variety of modes, including an "innovative" Career mode, as well as Time Trials, Championship, and Grand Prix options, although details of these modes have not yet been made public. The publisher has also promised a "highly advanced damage model, fully dynamic weather system, and extensive competitive multiplayer options."

    No drakonX your not alone i to love F1 but never get to watch it as nascar takes up most of the air time and iv not found a free site that has the races like hulu ect. sucks as a southerner i should love nascar but i just cant get in to. In the old days it was great but now its just all BS. Any F1 is great i have the f1 game on ps3 which is good but this game should be much better.

    Am I the only one in America who follows the F1 GP tournament? I've loved F1 since I was a kid and just recently got back into it. GO FERRARI!

    @aboy1411: I'm thinking about a G27. Need something good for GT5 in addition to this game. There's plenty of G25s around too at a little lower price, but the G27 looks pretty bad ***!

    I have high hopes for this game, hopefully Codemasters really creates a good simulation, the 2006-season for PS2 was just horrible. At least it looks good.

    I was wondering what was happening with this game...assumed it was gonna be released when the season started...oh well, at least I know it's coming...now I can free up my gaming budget for Splinter Cell and World Cup next month

    Hum... I can't name a single professional driver or team right now. But I like Formula One racing simply because it has a season and you do more than right turns the whole time.

    I hope the innovative Career mode doesn't let me down. I don't want another car collecting game with a bunch of mini-races (Forza / GT).

    I still love need for speed shift and GTR 2 with my fanatec clutch and stickshift! Hopefully this will be up there with them!

    Well it's about time we got a new F1 game, i still have the last one from 2006 and it was very good. I still wish we got one for last season though maybe packaged into 2010. Looking forward to it though, i love F1!.

    People needs to realize that they can't play a F1 game like other street race games. A F1 racer doesn't have contact with another car like the others race games... is all about velocity with precision and with perfection...

    I can't wait to try out my G27 with this game, hopefully the will give us -wheel users- a "realistic" mode setting or something along those lines. Don't get me wrong, Dirt2 is great but I want something less arcade.

    The Formula car stuff in GRID was great. If they improve on that and do the F1 license justice, with a good career mode, this game should f'n rock.

    Been waiting for this one for a while. Can't wait! Only thing is, it's too bad we're going to get all of the god-awful Tilke tracks! Too bad we can't get Imola or the old Hockenhiemring. Oh well...at least we get Montreal!

    I hate it when they release the F1 games after the season is almost over. Makes sense to release pre-season. This also better not be just a 2010 version of F1CE. I want a really, really good F1 game.

    If Grid and Dirt 2 were any indication of codemasters are capable of doing with a racing game then this game will be right up there as one of their greats but we'll have to wait and see the final product.
