This morning Sony fired off its latest salvo in the console war, announcing that all six major motion picture studios are supporting the PlayStation 3's online marketplace, the PlayStation Store. Starting today, 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution will all offer HD movies for sale via the PlayStation Network's online store.

The movies available on PSN include: Star Trek, Paranormal Activity, and Zoolander (Paramount); Inglourious Basterds (pictured), Couples Retreat, and Public Enemies (Universal); The Hangover, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and The Wizard of Oz (Warner Bros.); Up, G-Force, and Earth (Disney); This Is It, 2012, District 9, and Zombieland (Sony); and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Jennifer's Body (Fox). Fox's Fantastic Mr. Fox will be available on March 23.

"We're in the video-sellin' bidness. And bidness is a-boomin'!"

Sony is touting the fact that PSN is now the only console-based online network to offer feature films from all six major studios. Xbox Live's video marketplace, which was rebranded the Zune Marketplace after Microsoft began offering 1080p streaming video last fall, has several major studios on board. These include Universal, Paramount, Warner Bros., Fox, and Sony Pictures, which operates independently of Sony Computer Entertainment. However, the Sony offerings currently on Zune Marketplace--which include District 9 and Moon--are rental-only.
