BioShock 2 DLC drops March 11

Multiplayer-focused add-on to 2K Games' underwater dystopian shooter deploying next week on 360, PS3, PC for $5.

BioShock 2 proved to be a big winner as part of Take-Two's fiscal first-quarter earnings report earlier this week, shipping 3 million units across the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. With sales figures like that, the publisher should find plenty of fertile soil for BioShock 2's first expansion. Today, 2K Games said the first add-on, called Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack, will arrive on all three platforms March 11 for $5 (400 Microsoft points).

The Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack is aimed at the game's multiplayer mode, which was developed by Dark Sector studio Digital Extremes. With the pack, players will be able to attain rank 50 in multiplayer mode, as well as play as Louie McGraff and Oscar Calraca. The Sinclair Solutions Tester Pack is rounded out with 20 new trials, a third upgrade for each weapon, and five new masks.

2K Games noted that it has several more add-on packs scheduled to arrive in the next few months that will expand both the single-player and multiplayer portions of BioShock 2. Included in the packs will be additional narrative, as well as new tools and challenges that are designed to further flesh out the tragic fall of Rapture.

I played the MP the other night and found it to be shockingly bad. It's a clumsy affair, the character you control seems to "plod" along at a less than satisfying pace. Also, no thought whatsoever was put into balancing the gameplay. I and four others, all new to the MP, starting at the lowest level, found themselves getting slaughtered again and again by some person playing at Level 40. They had the teleportation plasmid and everything, seemed to know where the Big Daddy suit was and meant that the rest of us got sod all of a decent game out of it. Also, at one stage I re-spawned right beside the Level 40 dude and as a result got killed within two seconds. I would not classify this as entertainment in the slightest. The single player campaign was fantastic, but the multi-player is broken and awful to play. It's sad to think that in this day and age a game gets delayed for months on end just to have a multiplayer added so that it might sell better. Why not create an excellent multiplayer that people want to play in the first place, like for instance, Uncharted 2, which is constantly getting improved on by Naughty Dog. In the time it took me to ACTUALLY get a game of Bioshock MP, I could have logged in and out of an Uncharted 2 deathmatch THREE times, it's THAT slow.

@ Vorodor21 Man..i'm tellin ya right now..if you think devs releasing free content never happened...and they used to do it frequently with great respect for their audience, BTW...and you think DLC is anything new..then you are far more idiotic than one could possibly imagine, and have also never played a PC game in your life.

I haven't played the MP yet, why do people keep saying it needs to be fixed? No XBL

  • burnout_toreach

    Posted Mar 7, 2010 7:44 pm GMT

I never ever thought about or complained about Bioshock not having multi-player and the same goes for Bioshock2 ,
because as well as it plays yes I've tried it once just to see if their idea of it was any good

I'll give it the credit for the idea of setting it in the time of Andrew Ryan before the fall of Rapture begun, it is not what i play this game for

So I'm waiting until more single content, possibly fix up the story here and there, as good as it felt to be back in Rapture being a big daddy felt so underpowered for a great deal of it.

That would be cool, but maybe that should be a DLC, hey who sais it shouldn't be a big DLC? like Espisodes from Liberty City =)

Now about the multiplayer DLC, I'm level 40 and I agree that having a level 50 trophy/achievement is quite (whatever) boring but 2K need to do something to their crappy servers first as the amount of lag is absolute rubbish half the time and the connection I'm using isn't slow either.

Lame. No new maps is lame. Awesome that they are probably giving upgrades to players that suck at it. Clearly those people that don't know how to aim will be rewarded with splatter grenades, and maybe even get some weapons that have plasmid effects with them like the Tesla Shotgun, or flame rounds.

this DLC seems worthless,im sure that most people just got level 40 for the trophy and platinum, being level 50 is just "watever" for them

give me a challenge room/Sp dlc like...maybe..REVISITING AREAS?!?!?

    @badtaker

At this point, it doesn't have much to do with the developer. It might in this particular case, but usually it tends to be the distributor (Xbox Live, PSN, Steam, etc) that demands DLC be priced, and usually premium priced.

  • Vorodor21

    Posted Mar 7, 2010 12:46 am GMT

Quality of this particular content aside...what some of you people seem incapable or unwilling to comprehend is that just because a game is ready for launch, doesn't mean that the team or even just portions of the team are going to just drop everything and go work on a completely different game. Once a game "goes gold" it is too late to add stuff without pushing back the release date. In this particular case the stuff they are adding had no obligation to be in the retail release. These teams have no obligation to continue working on content after a game has launched.

I'm honestly embarrassed to be a part of this gaming generation simply because the majority of you are nothing more than whining children, not content with what you get and always demanding more for no cost to yourself. Get over yourselves.

Whatever happened to waiting a year or two to release a complete, full, EXPANSION..
I just paid 60 bucks for this, why do I have to pay even more for some stuff they should've included in the original?

  • BTroxell

    Posted Mar 6, 2010 8:33 pm GMT

The single player dlc better be a prologue to a 3rd game that takes place before and during the fall of rapture. That's what Myself and other people want and that is where this story needs to go.

    Not getting this...
What they're doing is TWEAKING THE GAME
    nothing really NEW...

Unless they give new levels, or gameplay modes... i'm still gonna be disappointed...
besides FF13 and GOW 3 are coming out the next 2 weeks...
and i JUST bought the General Knoxx DLC for borderlands... That $10 is worth more than the $5 that is gonna be used by people for this DLC anyway

  • im-a-roustabout

    Posted Mar 6, 2010 3:03 pm GMT

Not a bad price really, but still masks and a higher level cap is just dumb. The new weapons are the only thing that might make it worth it, but then again the MP for this game sucks. I hope they add more the SP exp, otherwise I'll be selling this game soon.

What ever happened for "waiting a WHILE" until DLC is released. Just goes to show that the DLC is already made way before the game is out and they just can't wait to get money into their pockets.

  • E__Nygma

    @xdude

A game is finished by developers months before the release date so the developers can't get everything they want into a game without pushing it back, which people complain about. It's like writing. A writer will constantly change the work, updating it, making it flow better, wanting to add new character development or twists. All this after it has been published. The only option for a writer is to do the updates he/she wants and than sell the entire thing again. With video games, the developers don't need to re-sell the game, but can add additional content as they continue to perfect their work.

  • WeskerLogan

    Posted Mar 6, 2010 6:55 am GMT

gosh i'm so sick of the complaining. It's 5 dollars..unless you're 7 or out of a job this shouldn't be a problem & no one is forcing you to buy this add on. I, for one, enjoy the updates because it brings me back to the game. Right now, I'm playing Mass Effect 2 but this update will make me dust off Bioshock 2. If you don't like it, don't get it. always a choice.

  • gamescottsman

This is a nasty new trend. Release a game, hold back some of it's original content then bung it out as 'new' DLC very soon after. Don't get me wrong, I like DLC allot and it can boost a games lifespan - but so soon?...it's a rip off
